Re: A4LD Kickdown Lever Position

Johnny got me thinking of what I might have done wrong so I crawled back under the car. I loosened the kickdown shaft nut, made sure the lever was pushed as far clockwise as it would go, and then torqued the nut to 10 ft-lbs. Transmission now shifts fine again. I guess the shaft was rotated enough c...

Re: A4LD Kickdown Lever Position

Just another thought here...Reading through the shop manual a little more carefully, it almost sounds like maybe I have inadvertently moved the internal shift linkage in such a way that "D" on the gear selection lever in the cabin is not "Drive" anymore for the tranny. Not sure i...

Re: A4LD Kickdown Lever Position

Just a thought: some of what you describe seems like a vacuum modulator issue. Thanks Ed. Yea, I thought it sounded like the modulator too, but it would be just too much of a coincidence that it would drive fine before I messed with the kickdown lever and poorly immediately after. I have carried a ...

A4LD Kickdown Lever Position

Hi All, Well, I think I messed up trying to get the kickdown to work on my gold '89 Scorpio. I adjusted this on the white car several years ago with no problems and jumped under the car to try and do it from memory. Bad idea. Instead of loosening the two bolts holding the solenoid, I loosened the on...

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply. Do you make the mounting/fitting and we source the proper VSS or do you make a plug-and-play part? What is the cost and lead time? Thanks.

Thanks all for the replies. Since this is part of an engine rebuild, I have been told that inserting the seal prior to securing the rear main cap for the final time will work fine. I was not sure if this would risk interfering with the cap or seal position, but I have been assured these will not be ...

Oil Pan Gasket Applications

Hi All, My 86 originally used the four piece oil pan gasket. I have a one piece rubber gasket that came in a set that I bought a few years ago. I have test fit it on the 86 pan and don't see any issues. The block is currently at the machine shop, so I have not checked how it fits on the rear main ca...

Rear Main Seal Replacer Tool

Hi All,

What have people used to replace the rear main seal if the proper Ford tool is not available? BTW, the Ford tool is T82L-6701-A (OTC7786). Thanks.
