Re: XR4ST

The pattern is not the same for 1.6 ecoboost. The 1.6 ecoboost is a Zetec SE, completely different than older Zetec(Zetec-r, Zetec-e) Zeta family. Zeta family uses iron block. Sigma engines(zetec-s, zetec-se, duratec ti-vct) are unique, and use aluminum block. It gets even more confusing when you br...

Re: XR4ST

No hood clearance issues. If the engine is moved up any higher the bellhousing would hit tunnel, moved forward the oil pan would hit subframe. The 1.6 is a "Sigma" engine series aka Zetec-se, but not to be confused with older zetec 2.0s. The eco 2.0 & 2.3 are "Duratec". The s...

Re: XR4ST

Here is a website that sells them, I bought them off eBay. http://streetrays.com/newstore/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=59921&search=Shock+extenders&page=3 Keep in mind I had to modify the extenders to fit inside the shock tower. Overall I do not recommend going this route, ...

Re: XR4ST

I will admit my brakes are not ideal. I originally intended to use the Forged Narrow Dynalite 4 calipers with the focus svt rotors on the rear of the vehicle, but didn't take into account the rotor hat not fitting over the hub. I was then going to use 6 pot calipers up front with focus RS MK1 rotors...

Re: XR4ST

Here is a good picture showing the original rubber bump stop inside the top spring perch. Setup is still going strong, slowly turning up the boost, up to 12lbs now. Have an autox event on 9/16 and another on 9/30.

Re: XR4ST

Constructive criticism is always welcome. As far as assuming, well u know what happens there. The spring rates provided from Solo-werks are linear rate 450lbs for front, and progressive working rate of 590lbs for rears. Regardless of spring rates, they we're designed for a heavier, AWD vehicle. If t...

Here are some more pics. Hard to tell how far i cut into the firewall since I put in new sheet metal and thermo-tec foil and retardent but a lot of room is needed back there for the vacuum pump, direct inection pump, water outlet, and sensors. I used block off plates from SBD Motorsport for the wate...

Re: XR4ST

The 96-97 4wd aerostar driveshaft is the same length as the mustang shaft. I swapped over the rear flange with a conversion u joint. The front slip yoke, although shorter, had the same splines and rubber ring dampener so I left that alone. Still using the adapter for the rear flange. It is almost al...

Here is a pic from the Auto cross event and the results,32 X prepared. Please keep in mind i havent autocrossed in over 5 years, this was the first time driving the car hard, first time driving the car with those tires/wheels(brand new Toyo R888R 245/45-16 16x8). I flat-towed the car to and from the...

Several years ago I bought a non rolling shell from Robert Urfer. It is the fifth Merkur I have owned. A couple years ago I started putting together some ideas I have had into this shell. The purpose of this build was for race only. First I needed to get the car rolling. I brought it home on a pile ...

Re: Rear Disc swap, poor pad contact on rotor

Im not familiar with the scorpio caliper, but if its like most turn back style calipers you need to make sure the slot in the caliper piston is aligned with the nub sticking out in the center of the brake pad. Most rear calipers have 2 recessed slots in the piston to align with the nub, some have 4.

I am able to get this kit fairly cheap and was wondering if it is worth it if I decided to go this route. Obviously I wouldnt need the rear stuff but these are monotube Bilsteins. Also I am wondering what else I would need mount wise. Thanks. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/85merwhat/VWS.jpg

And just to clarify my thoughts about a warped rotor, figure 2 in the article is what I would consider a warped rotor (the "Distortion or 'Coning' due to stress from Thermal Expansion"). This is also the most common that I come across in the field. If a rotor has hot spots (similar to figu...

If the judder is not in your steering wheel, then I would adjust the rear brakes. If a drum is out of round, under light braking the shoes are just catching the out of round part, but under heavy braking the shoes make full contact with the drum and the problem goes away. This would be the first thi...
