Re: If I want cruise control...

Hi all, I remember the dealer saying that cruise control would be offered but it was not available at the time I bought the car. After a few other visits with that dealer I refused to return to the dealership as the service from them was abominable. I filed a formal complaint with the Ford rep over ...

Over the weekend, pause and reflect...

Hi all, I would like to suggest that as we celebrate our countries' birthday this weekend that we take a bit of time to reflect on the freedoms we have, the veterans who have made that possible and our incredible luck in being citizens of this fantastic country. Any veterans in here, thank you for y...

Re: If I want cruise control...

Hi all, Yes, I knew the premium function was to improve overall performance of the car as I saw that in here a couple of years ago, I believe. The three things it will do are all better than the normal auto XR unit, in my opinion. I did wonder if it had anything related to cruise but clearly that is...

Re: If I want cruise control...

Hi all, I had been thinking of the Tbird auto computer as it controlled the A4LD lock up, it has a setting to always use premium and I wondered if it had some function for the cruise plus it is set for an intercooler which I am wanting to install later. So three out of four still good reasons to use...

Re: xr won't start. (yes another thread)

Hi all, What a hard ten minutes of work! I pulled the connecting pigtail off the TFI chip, loosened the distributor hold down bolt, twisted the distributor counter clockwise to get space for the deep 7/32" socket and removed the two bolts for the TFI. I then pulled it down and off, keeping the one t...

Re: xr won't start. (yes another thread)

Hi all, I clicked the link and was looking at a star head tool. I did not scroll down the page; I thought the star tool was the one he was looking at. The deep socket i mentioned will work well, but you might need to rotate the distributor to use it if it is set so that the power steering pump gets ...

Re: xr won't start. (yes another thread)

Hi Ed,

It is a good deal only if it works. Does your car use a star head bolt? Mine is 5.5mm or 7/32ths (same thing) size bolt head. That wrench definitely is wrong for my car. I can't speak for all versions obviously. The heat sink paste is good.

Cheers

Re: xr won't start. (yes another thread)

Hi all, The wrench is wrong. You need a 7/32ndths inch 1/4 inch drive deep socket and some kind of wrench to turn it. I chose a thumbwheel but a normal 1/4 inch drive socket wrench or flex handle will work fine. Many companies sell (Wilmar} Performance Tools under various names and the tool number W...

Re: xr won't start. (yes another thread)

Hi all, TFI or coil. Flip a coin? Do you have any sort of test light like a continuity tester or timing light? Without one you can remove a spark plug from the number 1 cylinder near the water pump and connect it to the plug wire. Ground the tip of the plug on a clean bare metal engine part and have...

Re: If I want cruise control...

Hi all, I remember someone in here converting a wiper stalk by rewiring the squirt button, I think, to do the cruise control. Two or three years ago. I am sure the complete Ford kit would be nice but an intercooler would be more likely than that complete set in my present budget. I must say I had no...

Re: xr won't start. (yes another thread)

Hi all, The matching program in the site says NO. If you have to be cheap a United Motor Product chip in Rock Auto is less than $20 and comes with real heat sink paste in the box, not clear silicone dielectric grease like Standard, If you have a Standard part use it but get the clear silicone grease...

Re: If I want cruise control...

Hi, thanks for the reply. I thought the T-bird computer controls the lock up for the A4LD. No? I know the XR ECM is completely unaware of the transmission functions. The '86 cars also have the connections for cruise control? I asked to have cruise control when I bought the car in Dallas and they sai...

Re: XR4Ti haiku

Hi all, A new T F I Plus a new micro socket I'm ready to go! I am looking forward to this weekend to have a good drive on MO two lane blacktop backroads. At least I will have backup parts if needed but I think taking the TFI off, cleaning it well and the side of the distributor and using better heat...

If I want cruise control...

Hi all, I have been thinking of buying an 88 T-bird auto computer to control the Scorpio A4LD I am getting ready to rebuild and install. With that being so, I am wondering what other specific parts are needed from the later XR to make it use cruise control as I believe that the T-bird ECM has that a...
