Re: Question installing AEM wide band 30-4110...

I had read something about some have both a wide band signal for a gauge, but also had a standard (narrow) band for the stock ECU. Hoping someone knows of such a beast.

Question installing AEM wide band 30-4110...

Looking at adding an AEM wide band O2 kit to my modified '85 XR4Ti and was wondering if this will work with the stock computer? I have read opinions stating both yes and no. I'd like it mainly for the gauge and to keep an eye on my AFR, but I want to replace the stock sensor rather than run a second...

Re: Is there an issue with my external wastegate?

I'll look over the hoses again, but last check, everything was tight. It seems to run fine except that it feels like the boost is gone. I posted to another site which suggests getting a wideband O2 sensor and to close the gap on my plugs as the spark may be blowing out. I'm still running stock boost...

Re: Is there an issue with my external wastegate?

I have no doubt that the wastegate is working. My concern is, is it working too effectively? Is it possible to be dumping too much? My gauge still reads 15 PSI, but it feels like the turbo was turned off.

Has anyone else had similar issues and found a problem?

Is there an issue with my external wastegate?

Hi all, I've made some updates to my '85 XR4Ti (5-speed), but it isn't performing as I believe it should be. Here's what I've done so far: Rebuilt head with new valve springs, bronze guides, used Ranger roller cam and roller rockers, and new followers. PE Computer, Bob's log header with external was...

Re: Questions adding external wastegate...

Turns out, it was the unused and uncapped port. I don't know how that engine managed to run. Hope to give it a try to start maybe tonight.

Questions adding external wastegate...

Hi all, I'm putting my engine back together in my '85 5-speed car and have a few questions about how to configure things. I've spent some time Googling and searching forums, but haven't been able to definitively answer my questions. I've added a Bob's Log header and downpipe with accommodations for ...

Re: Anyone DD theirs?

I have been driving mine on a daily 120 mile round trip commute for the last 6 months, and for 3 years prior to that. Sadly I have noticed a slowly downward spiral of my interior plastics, which I plan to address this weekend. I also noticed that my dash is looking a little more crispy and my drive...

Re: Can the EGR inlet be relocated?

No testing in Michigan, or at least where I'm at in Michigan. I could replace the drivetrain with a blown 427and scoop out of the hood and as long as the front windows weren't tinted, I'd be fine.

Re: Can the EGR inlet be relocated?

I think I have my answer, or at least an answer that renders the original question moot. According to this thread, the EGR can be eliminated without issue to performance or everyday driving, especially if it has the recall modification done to it. http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44...

Re: Can the EGR inlet be relocated?

Thank you for the link. I am keeping the stock location, but the Bob's log exhaust is cast iron and doesn't have a bung for the EGR. I'm wondering if I can add a bung to the down pipe instead, or will that mess with the computer?

Thanks,
Paul

Can the EGR inlet be relocated?

Hi All, After drilling out three snapped off bolts from my turbo housing, I'm about ready to start putting my engine back together. Looking over the parts I remembered that I still had to figure out how I handle the EGR. The Bob's log I purchased doesn't have an accommodation for the EGR and I was w...

Re: Power drops off rapidly after above 4,000 RPM...

Here is a link to an interesting article on different high-zinc oils. They test 40 different oils for zinc and phosphorus and provide a ZDDP rating as well as a "load carrying capacity/film strength" which the tester describes as a "wear protection capability" for the oil in PSI ...

Re: Interior Work

Got everything stripped out. (Dry Ice worked great) I have quite a bit more rust than I was expecting but not as much as I've seen other people post. The affected areas are the curve where the floor pan meets the rocker and some smaller holes at the curve of the floor pan towards the firewall. Pass...
