Re: A New Member

My point with the brakes was that (given the small tires) if the rear brakes lock up with the stock drums, what do you gain with more powerful rear brakes? Of course disks have better modulation/heat dissipation, but most folks don't use the car that way. The rears lock up because they're drums, wh...

Re: A New Member

My responses in italics below: Wheel wells - mine have become fragile Common. No solution that I'm aware of. back in the day I could not find rebuild kits or replacement turbo (thought it is a Garrett T-3). Does anyone know what the best, available current approach is on Turbos? In general, turbos ...

Re: A New Member

Cool story, thx for sharing. Neat that you held onto your car all these years. Personally, I'd leave it stock, but I'm a curmudgeon (been there, done that on the mods). As a 20-something, I modded my dad's XR to his wishes (he wanted to retain a stock appearance at 1st glance). It ran/handled great,...

Re: The Euro Ford Garage Returns!

So I’m thinking of applying my car for this but it’s in the building for the whole weekend correct? I wouldn’t be able to take back and forth to the hotel? Also you have to be there early and can’t leave till the show is over? That is my understanding, PLUS you'd not be parked w/your Merkur brethren.

...Seems it would be difficult for Ford to sell 92 more than were imported. :?
Wonder if those 92 cars were destined for other markets?

Re:

On the driver's side shock tower, the car's build date has been stamped. Mine is 6-4-85, which falls on Carlisle weekend and also happens to make it exactly one month older than my son. 8) On my 1989 XR, the DS shock tower has "1109" stamped in yellow & the driver's door says 11/88. Probably not th...

Re: Why are new cars so expensive?

New cars are so expensive because vehicles are lasting longer and people are holding onto them longer. The result is a stratification of the entire market. Many dealers are making more money on the sale of refurbished second hand vehicles than on the sale of new vehicles. Nowhere is this more evide...

Re: New Here- Planning on buying an XR4Ti soon!

Welcome to the forum, good luck in your search. Echoing what the others have said. They are not difficult cars to work on, and parts avail. seems better than when I started messing with these things in '85.
