New cars are so expensive because vehicles are lasting longer and people are holding onto them longer. The result is a stratification of the entire market. Many dealers are making more money on the sale of refurbished second hand vehicles than on the sale of new vehicles. Nowhere is this more evide...

Re: New Here- Planning on buying an XR4Ti soon!

Welcome to the forum, good luck in your search. Echoing what the others have said. They are not difficult cars to work on, and parts avail. seems better than when I started messing with these things in '85.

Re: Why are new cars so expensive?

Loaded with technology & content + general inflationary pressures I assume. The "leasing mindset" that really came on strong in the late 80's hasn't helped either, since it convinced folks that they can & should drive more car than they can afford to buy, and skewed the entire market toward the high...

Re: Awesome. A new noise!

..The Turbo TBird Coupe had a big, weighted damper which bolted onto the top of the tail housing. Some FMXs had those as well. Not sure what setup the OP has either, and he didn't say. I assumed it was some sort of tribal knowledge that I should have known & he wasn't interested in sharing. ::shrug...

It can't be that, because there isn't one. :)
Sorry if I missed that part. U joints are cheap/easy, so you can check those easy enough.

What else aren't you telling us?

I'd suspect the center support bearing and/or guibo.

Neat to see a beloved Merkur, and I can respect the amount of work & $ it took to do that conversion.

I have to question why though. Seems like a lot of hassle and expense for somewhat meager HP & torque gains.

Re: XR & Memorabilia AUCTION

I haven't done a ton of research, but clean XR4s seem to hold some value in the UK, with Cosworth's @ a 4-8x multiple.

Re: Hagarty Merkur Article published

Thanks for posting, Paul. Way to represent Merkur and the Garden State. Love the action shots from the Glen. :cheers In 2011, Hagerty put the XR4ti on the "endangered" list, saying they insured fewer than 25 examples. I wonder if that has changed over the past 8 years? With the comments here re: val...
