Re: Type 9 (T9) Short Shifter Options

No. 2: The link you have there appears to be the same, or similar to the "Comp" shifter I got from BAT years ago (I believe it's what Burton Power sells/sold and is from Quaife). If this is the same, this is one of the best modifications I ever made to my car (I replaced the shift rail nylon bushin...

Re: Hagarty Merkur Article published

One advantage of flying Merkurs is that you're generally under the radar.

Enjoyed the article. It sort of seems that the marque might finally get some of the recognition and respect it deserves. Maybe just a little bit...

Re: 88/89 XR4 Brakes

First, thoroughly bleed the brakes to ensure no air has entered the system. If that checks out, and with no leaks, you probably have a bad MC. Check with our vendors (see main page).

Edit: My bad - Stinger's rotated does away with the EGR... it would NOT work.
It's hard to find one where EGR is preserved. Can't really be that big of a deal do fab a new, longer EGR tube, or an extension on the back of the rotated intake to mate with the original tube, but nobody's doing it.

Re: Stinger (?) 3" Elbow & Downpipe

You should get your E6 ported as well. Huge torque gains and quicker spooling to along with your downpipe. And it can't be detected by the tech. I also thought there was a 3" bolt-on downpipe. Was it Rapido? Or was his like 2.5" and even that's an upgrade over stock. Mike at Merkur Depot shows some...

Re: Stinger (?) 3" Elbow & Downpipe

I am 100% sure a flex section is a technical illegality, but the whole downpipe is a technical illegality anyway. My experience is that most shops won't hassle you if it looks like good work and maintains placement & function of the important parts (O2 sensor & cat, namely). I'm *hoping* that plays...

Re: Stinger (?) 3" Elbow & Downpipe

Another thing I want to think about is some sort of flange somewhere. I think I'm okay with the elbow and DP being one piece, but I definitely want a flange at some point before the cat in case things need to come apart, or I need clearance for work. I wonder if there is room to do the flex section...

Re: Stinger (?) 3" Elbow & Downpipe

AFAIK, with some experience with a downpipe from Sacramento Mustang, it'll need to be shortened somewhat for a perfect fit in a Merkur, which is just a little shorter on the down section than a Mustang. I would ask them, however.

Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacer

Well, I generally try to play by the rules because I believe in them... I believe in what they're trying to do-- clean emissions-- as well. I enjoy clean air. However, in CA, as usual they go about it the wrong way. Here in AZ, we have dyno tests which are as strict as, or more so than, CA's hokey,...

Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacer

Definitely! If you were gonna spend $600 on a BMW VAM, then I would just PiMP it. You've done so much work to the car that swapping in a VAM for smog will worth the effort. As you also live in the PRC (Peoples' Republic of California), your input would be quite germane. Perhaps a gutted/dummy VAM (...

Re: SHOW ME YOUR FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE!!!

SO ANGRY. It really upsets me when it's easier to do something on a Saab than on a Ford. That just doesn't make sense. Funny you should mention it... every time I work on my '01 Z3 3.0, I marvel at how easy it is, and how the car "cooperates" with one's attempts to do maintenance. So far, I've repa...

Re: 1985 Ford XR4ti Merkur -Group A Touring Car

Very much agree! Interesting also how many XR4Ti racers did the “crisscrossed” IC tubes. Almost certainly that has to do with homologation. They probably weren't allowed to rotate the inlet due to homologation or didn't want to go through the process of homologating a rotated intake knowing the Cos...

Re: 1985 Ford XR4ti Merkur -Group A Touring Car

Love it. It's great to see an original or at least mostly original Group A spec 2.3L engine and how they routed tubes and hoses. Man these engines look amazing once you clear out the emissions. Also the swirlpot that is vented to the overflow tank is brilliant and likely something that I'll look to...

Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacer

Those fittings work just fine - I actually have one on my car now. As long as you are careful when installing the nylon hose over the fitting, there is no reason they would be unreliable. On Saabs (and I'm 100% positive other European cars), that operation is basically required for any sort of fuel...

Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacer

Well, the car passed smog! A wee bit tight, but it's been tight for eight years so I'm not stressing on that. ;) https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqwvoBt9ZBp2go8qp3EUN03cyhEdwg With this configuration there is a tangible dead spot at 3000rpm with a little throttle. If you've dropped the hammer that moment goes ...
