Re: just another day and rare k2/xr4ti find

Right. K2 should have hit up the Mitsubishi Starion/Plymouth/Chrysler Conquest for their quintessential turbo 80's skier ride. At least they have a little fold down tray in the center console for, um taking important notes and such. Ford should have invested in the superior Sierra and Scorpio platf...

Re: Raspberry Pi Dash for PiMP/Megasquirt

This is fascinating. The company I work for has gone to this type of display for our Ready Mix and Aggregate screens. It would seem that with a bit of creativity, one could configure it in some very intuitive and user-friendly ways... bar graphs which give one strong visual and/or even color-coded, ...

Not sure why a rwd open diff car would work well for skiers anyway.

Here's another 90deg over the alternator with a nonstock throttlebody(I wonder what distributor access is like):

Yeah, with an early jug setup on the hot side, I would go with a 120* rotated intake, but perhaps this was "on hand."

Drop me a line for some Greenstuf pads.
I've used those to good effect. :thumb Their rotors are nice, too, if still available, and if they fit your car.

Re: Questions adding external wastegate...

Yes, you can get rid of the factory BCS; most of us do.
You can get your boost signal from the turbo outlet right there, or, as most MBC makers such as Gillis recommend, get it from the unused port on the vacuum tree, which your '85 5-speed will have.

www.merkurdepot.com big front brake kit will clear (most) 15" wheels, but not 14".
Stock XR4Ti front brakes might be your best bet and indeed and upgrade for such a small car.
I have a set I'm not using if you want them. Just need rotors and pads. Mintex and EBC make good pads for these brakes.

Re: Anyone DD theirs?

Part of the problem is the wire gauge used in the stock configuration isn't adequate for all the bulbs... So what happens when you have too many amps for the wire?? Well, if something's going to happen, years and years later, I'm still waiting on it. Nothing ever has. What do you suggest? You've al...

Re: Anyone DD theirs?

The only grounds I've added have been taillight matrices-to-body ground-- they pop up as an issue in lots of these cars. I would do it to any XR I own. The rest were matters of repair and maintenance, at least for me. Part of the problem is the wire gauge used in the stock configuration isn't adequ...

That, plus cleaning and pulling up the contacts on my left brake light connector ended all the issues I had.
Yes, mentioned that; thanks for providing pix and a more detailed explanation.

Re: Show me your Belt Routing with a Passenger Side Alternator

Here's another shot of what "Sixfoot7" Hugh Lacy did to Have It All with an '89-- no relocations necessary. He did it by extending the alternator adjusting slot downwards, and using shorter belts:

Re: Production date?

Hi Ken,

You'll find the build date stamped on the front of the left (driver's) side strut tower, e.g., 11 21 for Nov. 21st, etc.

That is, if it hasn't been painted over.

Re: Canadian in love with Group A racing.

Anyone upset with anyone turning an XR into a race car is simply not seeing the highest purpose to which they can be dedicated to, and has their priorities all wrong.

Best of luck with the endeavor, and don't forget to bring us along! :cheers
