Ford Performance email mag: "RYAN LABOMBARD’S ECO-BOOSTED ’87 MERKUR RESTOMOD’S THE BOMB"

Miracles do happen. I have never seen a Merkur in this email mag sent to my email inbox once or twice a week, but here it is. I guess since it features an Ecoboost engine, and more specifically, the parts from Ford to make it work, they let one get by: https://performance.ford.com/enthusiasts/fan-sp...

Re: Motor mounts + Timing Belt + valve cover compatibility

It looks like you have no filtering medium in place now for the oil blow-by-- no more "steel wool" in the little canister absorbing the mist (or worse). I have to wonder if this doesn't result in oil in your intake.

Re: WTB 1989 Xr4ti Shorty aluminum Radiator

If you go 90*, keeping your Late jug is a matter of extending the alt adjustment slot downwards and using a shorter belt. I'll find you a pic...https://share.icloud.com/photos/0a5qHWz3Ik1yymddHgqW9SmdQ BTW, I don't want to fail to credit Hugh Lacey for the pic; his car can be seen on CarDomain, "6fo...

Re: WTB 1989 Xr4ti Shorty aluminum Radiator

No, I sold that car a long time ago, so I only have pix of the one-off, custom '89-style rad that I'm saying you don't need. But, it's pretty straightforward, as described: 1. Early-style Shorty rad 2. Early hoses, with one T-fitting for the fill from your jug (bottom hose, lose the crossover pipe),...

Re: WTB 1989 Xr4ti Shorty aluminum Radiator

Don't get an '89 Shorty-- you don't need it . In fact, the placement of the hoses will interfere with your IC piping, and your vent hose will no longer be at the highest point in the system. Use an Early rad, and just run your fill hose from your burp jug straight down to a T-fitting on your lower h...

Re: Motor mounts + Timing Belt + valve cover compatibility

Yeah, I am not worried about the mounts. I am not looking forward to the pan, however. New Felpro gasket came in today, so I'm gonna try to put that Ranger valve cover on and see if it fits. While I am at it, does anyone know if there is an aftermarket NON adjustable cam sprocket for a round tooth ...

Not a PITA job. First time, yeah (I've done it 4-5 times). But nothing complex is involved.
Completely agree, have done it a couple of times; ramps, a floor jack, a wood block, and a basic ratchet set are all you need.

Would advise checking the drive shaft alignment/runout once you've done it.

Re: FS: 1988 Rosso Red XR4Ti T5 Manual

:cheers Congrats on the sale and purchase for whoever bought it. I think that is the third XR this month I have seen sell for $4k + Thanks! Ended up letting it go for $3600 but kept a few choice parts like borbet 16x7.5 wheels, fwd facing upper intake and Cossie turbine exhaust housing with jvab do...

Re: Vacuum Manifold Replacement

Is it possible to replace the Vac Manifold/Tree with an aftermarket one like this https://tinyurl.com/y4cuc6oy, I happen to have one already from a previous project and wouldn't mind using it. Sure-- anything with the right number/size of bayonets will do. It's just air pressure, and a way to contr...

It definitely needs a metric ton of TLC; lots of dead links, outdated/missing stuff...
