Re: V Belt Spacing on 3 Groove Pulleys

Jeez this forum is absolutely dead. Sad to see :( Or maybe no one knows the answer. Perhaps you can find a Pinto alt. bracket which will allow you to put it back on the driver's side. Just about everything else from the factory has power steering. I have used a three-groove belt system with a crank...

Re: 88 XR Build Thread - Rose

Looks like you could run without 'em. 205/45 16 worked very well with my old '85.

Really enjoying the pix and this thread, BTW. :cheers

Re: XR4Ti Coolant Recovery Bottle always full

Gotcha-- and thanks. Sounds like a bit of Lawyerese, the old CYA disclaimer... I can't think of any other reason for a supplier to cast aspersions on its own products. "For racing," and all that.

Re: XR4Ti Coolant Recovery Bottle always full

I was gonna say earlier that at some point, Ford ceased production/supply of the old, quarter-twist cap bottle design (levered or otherwise), and began supplying the screw-on cap bottle as a running change. I got one from Rapido (I'm gonna guess) in the early-mid '90's and they had already switched ...

Re: XR4Ti Coolant Recovery Bottle always full

Is there any reason the 85-87 earlier systems have the coolant recovery bottle and the 89 does not? Surely people with these spring chicken 29 year old cooling systems are still experiencing cracked hoses and air ingestion. What happens to their coolant since there is no coolant recovery bottle in ...

Re: XR4Ti Coolant Recovery Bottle always full

The early system was a throwback for sure, but we're just talking about the reservoir's function. The actual meat of the system never changed. You need a supply to the system and a return/overflow from the system. At the end of the day, all you need is some bottle that performs that function. My op...

Re: XR4Ti Coolant Recovery Bottle always full

Thank you, great info... I have had several XR's, from an '88.5, to an '85, and two 89's (one was my nephew's, then my son's, but you know who fixed 'em, right?😉), and I have to say, the '89 system with the jug on the cold side and the reduced number of hoses, connections, etc., is a VAST improvemen...

Re: Aftermarket Pedal box?

Looks like I had it backwards, then-- so if the wider spacing on the late cluster isn't enough, an aftermarket set may be necessary. Have no idea as to spacing or possible adjustability on any of those.

Re: Aftermarket Pedal box?

IIRC, wide-tunnel cars (like your '88) have the gas and brake a little closer together than the earlier, narrow-tunnel versions. Most of us like this, but (and here is a question put to the group), perhaps in your case, an Early pedal cluster may be better? Will it even work?

Re: Best Upgrade I've made re 30 Year Old Rubber: Rapido Gel-filled Motor Mounts

Hi all, Is this better at first then doing the differential mount? Cheers. That would depend completely on the relative shape of them both. Frankly, on most of these cars, odds are the motor mounts are in maybe slightly better shape than the diff mount. But if they both need replacement, you'd best...

One more time... Unfortunately, as difficult as it is to squeeze in personal phone calls during business hours, it's even harder to receive them. The chances of me being able to answer a phone between work functions are very small. I do my shopping at 10pm on Amazon or Summit or rockauto... o...

I wouldn't stress about the clock - dumping it for two 2 1/16" gauges is a good deal.
