Haha. LubeGard power steering additive is only ~$7.00.

Re: "A/C electric fan on when A/C Clutch on"

The bi-metal spiral actuator in the fan clutch couldn't have a precise on/off point but rather an actuation range of e.g. 10*-12*, just as the XR coolant fan sensor does (it works via an internal bi-metal disc which changes shape from convex to concave to establish a ground circuit). Same holds true...

Re: Merkur Depot Exhaust Fitment

To clarify, the potentially serious buyer saw all available info about the SS exhaust, MD's site poop and YouTube video (nothing more was found). He wanted to see a complete installation from underneath (I didn't pay attention to his reasons). It is a bit odd that a photo or better yet a video of th...

Re: Tachometer Repair

Noah's post responding to mine, and my response to his, were sarcasm, Mike... :cheers I know the coils are identical, hence the thought to swap to rule out the tach signal feed side of coil for my8950 as involved in his poor functioning tach. Yes, it's a remote possibility, but my8950 has been tryin...

Re: Tachometer Repair

It's worth testing as the tach signal feeds out from one side of the two coil harness prongs, and as you've reflowed the gauge solder joints.

Re: Tachometer Repair

A thought.

You/your father now have a Scorpio I think. If that Scorp's tach seems to work okay, try swapping the coil from it into the XR and observe that tach's operation.

FWIW: I just decided to look into GMB a bit. Their Social Responsibility caught my attention. I'll buy GMB again.

Dunno. I installed a GMB. Lower price. Also is a smaller and lighter unit (less rotating mass). Could be newer technology; or not.

Re: "A/C electric fan on when A/C Clutch on"

I just installed a new fan clutch on a low miles Scorpio with all service receipts, none of which showed a prior fan clutch replacement. I decided to replace the fan clutch after observing that at idle after fully warmed up the fan moved less air than at idle when full cold. In effect the reverse of...

Re: "A/C electric fan on when A/C Clutch on"

The Scorpio electric fan operation is controlled by either (or both) of two switches: through the trinary a/c switch: high a/c pressure activates it; as does high coolant temp via the radiator coolant temp switch. The fan activated on low speed once on my 88 Scorpio in summer temps due to bad fan cl...
