I would just do this. 3" Hole saw and put the cone on it. With the rubber on the cone and the clamps you can isolate it well or maybe put a piece of old rubber car mat or something similar underneath it. I used about an inch of 3" exhaust (cheap at AutoZoo) between the cone and the 90 degr...

You just need the down pipe really after that you can stay with the stock or 2.5...the dp's go for like 100 bucks...you can find them on ebay for 35 bucks now and then, I think someone on this board sells a pretty stainless one for $135?? exhaust above all else...except honor LOL!! or something like...

hmmm...spaced out on the "when cold" thing...if it warms up and runs fine, it's probably not the FPR...
