Re: 2.9 Crank Pulley / Harmonic Balancer Removal
Put the center bolt back that holds the crank pulley in and thread it in 3/4 of the way. Use a 3 way jaw puller and have the center pin push against the bolt. Pulley will pop loose. I went through this years ago. Used fire, BFH to no avail. Finally realized I was just flexing the crap out the pulley...

What a crazy world we live in. This car has certainly led a charmed existence. It could easily be in a junkyard somewhere, or more likely, be crushed. Good luck with her. She is a good car! No doubt this is a VERY good car. Darren, did you do anything to get the rear camber "right"? I che...

Re: Early 88 Merkur Scorpio Restoration Project
Well, after 7+ years, 250+ posts and untold money spent. I passed my Scorpio on to another MCA member. Bart Dyshuk made me an offer for both cars and I accepted. They were picked up this evening by a transport company. I have no doubt Bart will finish up what I was unable to do. The reasons for me d...

Re: EATC Repairs
Hi Am having issues with my Scorpio's EATC. I get a code 16 flashing in my EATC display. This indicates an Air Distribution Door Motor problem. Has anyone had this problem? If so what was the remedy? Can you also tell me what were the symptoms when this code 16 occurred? ..as usual thanks for any h...

Re: 1989 Scorpio Reservoir Cooling System Plastic Bottle
I am not sure you can repair it. They are pressurized and I don't know how you can patch it and hold together. I bet you can get a used or new one from some of our vendors. Jeff @ Merkur Midwest, Mike @ Merkur Depot, Russ @ Rapido.
Hope you can get it fixed.

Re: Early 88 Merkur Scorpio Restoration Project
Why did your control arms only last 18 months? Brand? Also, what brand is the new CAT? I think I saw MagnaFlow units for the Scorpio on ebay. I bought them from Jan Talian. I think his handle here is ford.scorpio. They were a "German" built control arm. Didn't last very long. I did contac...

Did you have any success trying to top off the charge in your a/c system?

Re: Early 88 Merkur Scorpio Restoration Project
It has been a month since I installed the new catalytic converter. A few observations: 1) With only the one converter in the pipe the exhaust note has increased noticeably. (It's okay, just a little loud in a bank drive thru) 2) Engine performance has increased noticeably. Acceleration is better and...

The low pressure port is the one attached to the compressor. The high side is on the top of the filter drier.MagentaRed wrote:Trying to figure out where the low pressure port is located on the Scorpio. Factory manual is no help. If I pick the wrong port, Boom!
Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Re: A/C not very cold. Recharge with A/C Pro?
The car was converted to 134a by previous owner Saul Rivkin. I've had the car for four years with no issues. It's blowing cool but not ice cold as before. So I figured I would try the AC Pro before taking it to a shop. It should be okay to use. I looked at their product page and with the gauge atta...

Re: A/C not very cold. Recharge with A/C Pro?
Is your system still filled with R-12 or has it been converted to R-134A?
If it is R-12 I don't think you can use it. A/C Pro is a R-134A product. If you have converted it over you can use this product, but you may have a leak.
Let us know more about your setup.

Re: Scorpio - Temp Gauge Sending Unit -
If the temp sensor doesn't fix your problem, the sensor wire runs along the inside of the passenger side valve cover and has a connector that connects the temp sensor to the main harness. The plastic shield sometimes cracks or breaks and lets the wire ground out. This will cause the gauge to peg hig...

Re: Early 88 Merkur Scorpio Restoration Project
Finally replaced the catalytic converter today. Signs that it was time to replace include: rattle in the converter, general feeling of pulling a boat most of the time, and after a 60 mile trip the other day I smelled sulfur from the converter. The replacement I got weighs about 1/2 as much as the or...

Re: Scorpio Tachometer and Speedometer Diagnosis Tool
This is cool! But is it a tach fix, or tach calibration? What I am experiencing with mine is, the tach responds soooo sloooowww compared to what the engine is actually doing. If the problem is the potentiometer, then this procedure can help fix it. By cleaning the carbon build up on the internals o...
