So perhaps my project should be to take the hybrid unit I bought (or perhaps another used stock unit) and turn it into an "improved" stock replacement? If I can find a Cosworth .48 turbine housing do I need to worry about the wastegate? How involved is the replacement? If I use the hybrid ...

Great feedback, and kind of what I expected. I got a used T3/T4 on a whim but was skeptical it would work. Two of you mention the Cosworth turbine housing, how do I lay my hands on one and what's involved in making the switch? I can't lay my hands on the last dyno charts, but I think I am going to d...

Going to a T4 compressor

Before I try my next step I thought I would consult with the experts out there. I have a 5 speed '89 with the following mods so far: 3" exhaust, rotated and gutted upper intake, ported lower intake, front mounted Modern Performance intercooler, Big VAM, PE ECU set to premium, Walbro fuel pump, ...

Jim D, I have no secrets, I'm just a Newbie trying to learn. My Dyno results (approx, as I don't have the papers with me) are (at the rear wheels): With 3" exhaust, front mounted intercooler, gutted and rotated upper, ported lower and Forge bov: HP 174, Torque (I'll have to check) With addition...

The readings I have were taken during a dyno pull, so the car was pulling through the rpm range in 4th gear up to 6,000 under load. The dyno operator was not familiar with our cars, and more used to new tech cars with newer tech ecus (EVO's for example). He commented on the jagged profile of my hp a...

Prior to putting on the big VAM and PE I put the car on a chassis dyno. At that time I did not pay to get the A/F sniffer, but the car seemed rich. To attempt to improve the situation I replaced all of the sensors (and the fuel pressure regulator) to assure the ecu was getting good information. I th...

All helpful suggestions. My car is running rich across the spectrum. Can I use an adjustable regulator to lean it out from factory? If so, does that mean I will need one with a particular range? I am not sure what the factory regulator is set to, but I assume I will need one that activates at a lowe...

Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator

Hi, I would like to add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to my XR. I have searched around and seen them mentioned. I've seen the Kirban name, but they don't make one for the 2.3 motor. Is it the same unit used on 5.0 Mustangs? I just want one that replaces the factory unit on the fuel rail. Any...

Well, look what I started! Just to reiterate at this point. I originally had my PE connected plug & play. I now have pin 30 grounded. I did not see any decline in performance when I cut the harness wire and grounded pin 30. I did not necessarily see an improvement either (I'd have to switch it b...

I'm not sure anyone will ever make it this far, but I wonder about one last thing. The SVO had the same 2.3 motor, a PE Computer and ran with the knock sensor connected (I assume). Why would it be a problem for us XR guys and not the SVO guys?

WOW, now I understand even less!!!! Anyway, I went into the wiring harness and cut the wire leading to pin 30. I put a connector on each end of the cut wire so I could reconnect it if necessary. Then I grounded another wire and put a connector on it as well. Right now I have the wire from the PE con...

Well, I do have a big VAM on the car, so everything I have read says that just grounding pin 30 puts me in premium mode. Why would tying in to pin 46 make a difference in my situation? My original post did ask why unplugging the KS mattered if my car wasn't knocking. I can verify that it was retardi...

Thanks All. I went ahead and grounded the wire today and it works fine. I also read that the existing harness wiring would put the ECU in premium mode except when out of gear, which was why I asked why my nss was still functioning. I cannot be certain it is running any different as I did not run it ...

PE Computer

OK, so forget all my curiousity, except for the wire color question. I have yet to ground pin 30 because the wire going to pin 30 (which i assume is the pin in the center row closest to the center screw) is not the color indicated in my sources. Am I worrying too much?

PE Computer

I do not want to start my car in gear, I am only wondering why it still won't start in gear once I have switched to a PE computer. On the stock XR ECU pin 30 relates to the neutal safety switch. On the PE it relates to the switch between the premium and regular fuel maps. I was just wondering why th...
