Re: Electrical problems beyond my skill Any advice how to proceed

Probably a diode in the alternator has died, simple test: run the car and measure voltage at the battery. Disconnect the alternator output wire and let it sit for two days. Retest battery voltage. If it's dropped from 12.4ish volts without the alternator connected, you have a draw in the car. If it ...

Re: Anyone DD theirs?

The only grounds I've added have been taillight matrices-to-body ground-- they pop up as an issue in lots of these cars. I would do it to any XR I own. The rest were matters of repair and maintenance, at least for me. Part of the problem is the wire gauge used in the stock configuration isn't adequ...

Re: Anyone DD theirs?

Yes, I daily drive mine, which I got 6 months ago. After it sat in a field for 4 years. The day I bought it, we stuck a battery in it, fired it up on 4+year old gas, and drove it around the block. Two weeks later, after a new timing belt, an oil change, fresh coolant, and an accessory belt, It atten...

My original package tray has been modified for 6x9 speakers. :puke
Rockettes first XR had the same problem, the added weight of the speakers would overcome the gas struts that held
the hatch open. I changed the struts, but the hatch hitting you in the head problem wasn't solved...

I really don't think this is an issue where fueling habits can be blamed.

I'd like to do an autopsy on the failed senders/fuel pumps, I'd put money on corrosion being the cause...

Re: Ford Recalls Focus

What is really required is more intelligent drivers... I don't know about you guys, but I drive 250 miles, and fill the tank. Usually putting 10 to 11 gallons in. There are a multitude of reasons for doing what I do, one being that if the $#!* hits the fan, I can go another 125 miles if I have to......

I read a tread some where that the c4 was possible but labor intensive.
The labour intensive part is finding the bell housing, then making sure it's aligned with the flex plate.
It ain't rocket surgery, it's a bit fiddly, but nothing an experienced back-yard mechanic can't deal with...

Re: How many of you have swapped in a C4 auto?

I think he was asking why this thread died (re anyone who swapped in a C4?). BTW, one guy who posted here or maybe on MerkurSport some years ago ran his high mileage C3 XR using power break starts repeatedly at the drag strip and it didn't break (eventually his posts ended but for unknown reasons)....

That isn't the right retainer for the fuel lines, this is a picture of the correct ones...

the black thing to the left of the pump is the retainer, there is also a white retainer
as well, but hard to see in the pic...

Re: LF: Parts vendors in here please.

You're both free to go braceless. You drive your cars (when they run...) on racetracks/autocross courses. If each of you drove (mostly normally) ~15/20K miles per year every year it'd possible your postulates might prove correct and applicable to all for beyond racing use . You don't. How do know t...

Re: LF: Parts vendors in here please.

As I always note, YMMV. For we who appreciate a quiet(er) cabin, tossing something engineered to address some part of NVH considerations is a zero sum game...no tangible benefit. We don't race. Probably never, or at best seldom, see the tach at red lines. Note that the OP asked only where to find t...

Yet internet injuneers will still say why, why, Y, Y...? YMMV Well Ed, you're still an opinionated idiot, you see, I've been racing and beating EAO2.0Ls and Lima 2.3Ls for the better part of 40 years. Can you guess how many problems I've seen because I've saved 19oz from leaving those braces off?? ...

Re: LF: Parts vendors in here please.

Do you realize that the "Y" brace is just a NVH item?? It's not required. The '71 to '74 EAO2.0L Capris had
a similar brace, they really don't do anything...
