Re: Full body painting suggestions needed 89 XR (maroon)

I just painted mine about a year ago, 950 in materials for a good high quality single stage prime and paint, very little body work. Honestly, its not the painting you need to worry about its the prep, you HAVE to clean the top layer via sanding VERY well, completely disassemble every piece attached ...

Re: BRAND NEW Ford TFI Ignition Control Module

Masterpro is a sorry brand IMO, house/cheap brand. Get a BWD, Bosch, or Motorcraft OE one. That one isnt worth 31$ from Ebay, I'd pay the extra and get one from someone you know can honor a warranty,
say maybe call one of our Merkur friendly vendors :P

Re: Ecoboost Crate Engines

Im not concerned with crate motors anyway. TOo expensive even if they were available. Im more interested in harvesting the whole sha-bang from a wrecked: Focus, Escape, Fusion, etc etc. They put that 2.0 in so many now, its only a matter of time before they start ending up in scrap yards... I shall ...

Re: ignition issue please help

Check signal from the ignition switch. Solenoids on these go bad after sitting for any length of time too. Better than replacing a starter though, only 180 models of Fords used fender mounted solenoids, so they're still cheap and plentiful.

Re: Ecoboost Crate Engines

An XR with the 3.5EcoB would be the Ultimate king of all XRs. Although I've seen that motor.. and it's huge lol. It would take some serious maneuvering to get it and all the goodies into the XR bay, but I think it could be done. The IC piping on the trucks are ridiculously large, something would hav...

Re: Need of an ECU...

If I were you I'd get a stock VAM(Vane Air Meter), or at least the "Big" Vam from a turbocoupe/SVO, at least you know you're in OE parameters and aren't getting 6mpg, from there you should have a workable fuel mix to play with as atm your ECU won't know how to use that air meter. I'm assum...

Re: Cosworth RS 500 bumper driving lights.

I retrofitted the stock XR lights in that spot, looks pretty good IMO even used stock turn sigs. Only thing one would need to finish it to stock appearance would be a plug/insert for the gap under them, see my ad for pic. http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=20726 I've toyed wi...

Re: HELP.! Body parts needed.

Roger, I have an unpainted one (grey before they started painting them) It has that common "hump" in the middle where they used that epoxy stuff but its in good shape otherwise. I can match that 40$ as well, +shipping of course. Honestly if you are going to paint it you will want an unpain...

Re: rebuilt or not

I usually turn an engine over by hand too if it's been sitting a long time, after changing oil and other fluids. Slap a socket/wrench on the crank and turn her over a few times (ignition OFF!). Don't forget to remove it before actually trying to start the car tho. LOL... I did that once.. Thank GOD...

Re: Dimensions to cut hood for Cossie vents? How to?

If you are drawing air in through them, then all you are doing is cancelling some of the pressure differential between the front and back of the rad/IC, resulting in less airflow through both-- although probably not to any significant amount... so you screwed up, but not too badly. :? lol well I ca...

Re: Dimensions to cut hood for Cossie vents? How to?

MerlinMerkur... in case You don't know... Your vents are in backwards....... :cheers Yes I know, I did it that way on purpose! I said I broke all the rules, including the directional/orientation one. No, it doesn't seem to affect engine temp either. I'm sure they had some reason or another in havin...

Re: Dimensions to cut hood for Cossie vents? How to?

I have to throw into this, because I broke all the rules when I did my hood. I used the same pieces all the Cossie-hood "kits" come with but with a different twist. I used those funky FG carriages to make a cut-out to mark the hood with and support the inserts while the FG super-paste body...

Re: XR turbo-to vam hose issues with big vam/la3 under load.

I stand by my original post. Put GOOD fuel in it, determine GOOD inter-cooling, GOOD fuel supply, proper timing, and you'll be fine. I'd only use the knock sensor if I was stuck using poor fuel. It's too aggressive with it's timing strategy. I'm sure it was set up this way to prevent warrantee clai...

Re: XR turbo-to vam hose issues with big vam/la3 under load.

I know, that kinda worries me, dont really like the idea of runnin around with no ks. I'd like to plug it back in, but it makes the car really suck at wot. Is there some way to make it less aggressive??? Do not unplug the KS. Even if you can hear it you can't react fast enough to prevent it. Once y...
