Re: Type 9 (T9) Short Shifter Options

I used the #1 type (got it off of eBay in the early 2000s). Wasn't a dramatic change, but was a transformative one. Made the car much easier to shift and live with as a daily driver. I actually forgot I had put it on till I read browsing through and found this post.

Re: Rebuilding an XR4TI

Do yourself a BIG favor and ditch that blue fel-pro rubber valve cover gasket and replace with updated gasket, which is rubber with metal reinforcement sandwiched in between. Its $50 but is reusable, last one you"ll ever buy. If you can't find the part # just message me. Look in FAQ section. The fe...

Re: Turbocoupe intercooler problem...

Inadequate airflow over the intercooler? I assume you either have punched a hole in the hood or have provided ducting. If its not getting fresh air to cool it down, all it is is a huge heat sink blocking air flow. Whats it feel like to the hand after being driven hard? Could always install a small f...

Re: Painting black around mirror's

I cleaned mirrors, bumpers, trim (basically anything that was gray or black on the car) with Goo Gone, then acetone to remove any residue. Then air dry, and spayed it with adhesion promoter and then Flat Krylon Fusion. Seems to have held up so far so good. Only spot that needs a touch up is the corn...

Re: Why they did not change oil filter so often yesteryear..

To be fair, my dad's business is NOS parts pre-71. He has had customers pay top dollar for the boxes (and they would then hand him the parts back so he could sell them again) alone. There's weird collectors out there...

Re: I hear my wastegate is that normal

All I know is that with the knockoff RS500 Intercooler up front: no blowoff = trailer hitching at part throttle. I read once that that is because of the distance of the VAM from the throttle being lengthened. So I will try running without one again when I finally get megasquirt up and running. Rebui...

On the one hand I'm impressed, on the other I think "money can buy anything", and then the rest of me just fails to comprehend.

I would as well. And extend that to a photo of a stock, untouched, gray dash. For comparison purposes.

$5/gall is still cheap. $8/gall would be middle of the road, with $20/gall the high end (from what I remember when oil peaked at $150/barrel). On a side note, I know that a lot of people from both parties attacked Obama from his speech where he called for new high speed rail with "who's going to use...

I've only ever used 10w30 (except when I had a VC leak like crazy and could only find 10w40 for that last ride home). I've used dino oil, Mobil 1, etc.... never noticed any difference really. So I stick with Walmart brand synthetic. I read once that its made at the same location as Mobil 1. I don't ...

A stock Merkur has hp/ton (175/2920) of ~120, my (slightly modified, via $100 off of ebay) Toyota Paseo has hp/ton (120/2000) of ~120. Why? it may have 55 less hp, but also has 900 lbs less weight. Due to more overall hp and better gearing, the Merkur is faster, but the Paseo gets its bulk moving qu...
