Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

Funny enough, I'll also be having a mechanical slider in the Scorpio once I get around to installing the Euro manual controls. I've now got everything I need for that - just need to do it. Hey, I know a guy who had that exact same plan and even amassed all the parts too 8). He never started the pro...

Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

I always strive to simplify my engine bay, so eliminating the HCV and associated plumbing is on the hit list when I do a coolant system overhaul this spring. Obviously this has been much discussed on the XR platform, but I can't recall seeing anyone do it on a Scorpio. Will I be the first? P.S. Ed,...

Re: Door ajar switches acting up.

A button switch as located in Dmitri's post pic seems to be what newer model cars use re door ajar warning light. But the XR (and I assume Scorpio) uses a dedicated door ajar switch mounted on each latch: 20191121_170312-586x259.jpg YMMV That was my pic of my very own Turbo Scorpio, taken just befo...

Re: Door ajar switches acting up.

I think I'm a little past that. If I repeatedly open and close the offending door about 20 times I can get the light to go out. But first or second time after I go to open it again it will come back, and then I have to open and close them a bunch of times to get it to go out again. I'll keep workin...

Re: "Frozen" Rear Door Latch

My partScoprio has had seized up rear door latch since the day I brought it home. Prior to my ownership, the car sat for 20 years, so the door was likely last opened some time in the 90's. The exterior handle was already broken by the time I got it. I've removed the door card and the rods are readi...

Re: Coolant Temperature Sender

Guys, The Merkurs use gauges manufactured by VDO. Many VDO gauges of the era used sensors with the same profile, that is ~250 ohms at the "bottom" end of whatever scale (like cold water/oil or empty gas tank), and ~20 ohms at the top end of the scale. The coolant temp and fuel fill gauges in both Me...

Re: Improving Scorpio A/C Performance

The only thing holding R134a back (assuming you've changed the dryer and expansion valve for compatible items) in a stock scorpio is the condenser. The stock serpentine condenser has the phase change and heat rejection happening at only one single spot. That worked fine for R12, but 134a requires a ...

Re: IAC Issues, Scorp and XR, Maybe the "EEC-IV CHIEF" Knows How To Resolve?

Some years ago I inadvertently stumbled on the root cause of this while datalogging my turbo scorpio. I didn't have a bad TPS, rather, it was faulty wiring power distribution wiring, but the symptoms are exactly the same: The car drives fine for a while, then as if by magic, when coming to a stop du...

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade

Electric fans will draw amps. I've observed in both 88 and 89 fan clutched Scorpios that the electrical system just doesn't produce voltage at the battery as does the XR. On my XRs running with headlights and blower on high I consistently get voltage no lower than in mid 13s (14.4 with headlights a...

Re: Manual HVAC Control Conversion

You would swap the entire trim/vent panel, because it has slots for those levers that don't exist in the US version. BTW, the fake wood panel is not fake at all. Before 1080 vinyl wrap was a thing, I took one apart with the idea of converting the trim to brushed aluminum. It took a LOT of work with ...

Worth looking at them to see if/how they operate differently (per Jan) than the Scorpio vent deflectors.

YMMV
They have separate levers to completely close each vent just as the XR does.

Re: Manual HVAC Control Conversion

Jan suggested I might need the vents from the manual HVAC car since I'd no longer have the brain that controls the motorized ones currently on the car. Thoughts on that? I have wondered about this too. The stock US Scorpio airbox has no provision for cutting airflow to the dash vents, that is handl...

Re: Manual HVAC Control Conversion

I split this off into it's own thread as it should be. Been thinking about this one some more. As far as the Scorpio (Granada MK3) fan speed switch goes, where would you located that? Would you also want the trim panel that houses the switch from the Euro donor if you wanted the conversion to look ...

Re: Rear Reflector Removal & Re-imagineering

Get the Euro 24v tail panel, if you can find one.... I assume it's going to be configured for the Euro size plate, no? It is, it looks really slick especially with the 24v taillights. The one I had with our last 89 Scorpio had a US spec plate on it. I can't remember how the PO had put it on, but it...

Re: T-9 Speedo Driven Gear

Dimitri - Given the lack of availability would it be worth trying to take the "Speedo Cable" type gears and machine them to fit the Scorpio Hall effect sensor? Seriously doubt it. Here's what it looks like: https://www.motomobil.com/schaltgetriebe-tachoritzel-5-gang-typ-9-13-zaehne-nur-fuer,2669,61...
