Re: 1988 XR4ti Family Project (Problem building boost 6/29)
I can't believe it's been that long either. I remember every little project we did on that car and there are almost endless good memories involving friends and family that I don't get to see anymore. As much as I love the car itself, the fact that it's a time capsule for me is going to make for a ve...

Re: 1988 XR4ti Family Project
http://images.memes.com/meme/1166172 Oh my. It's been a while - but I certainly haven't forgotten about this place. I was unfortunately forced to sell the Merkur about 5 years ago (or so). It's been a total trip reading back through this build thread and I miss my car more than ever. A lot has happ...

Re: Short Shifter Kit
Well, we're talking about two different things here: a "short shift kit," such as Rapido sold (sells?), and which modifies the existing shifter, and the other BAT item which was a whole new shifter. The former are pretty good (BTDT), and the latter are supposedly really good. It's the who...

Re: Short Shifter Kit
I'm not sure if this is relevant information any longer, but I purchased the kit from BAT early last year. At that point in time they had the kit available but not the entire shifter. This was fine by me as I wanted the kit anyway and installation was pretty simple. I've found that with BAT your bes...

Re: New Here...
Well, if nothing else, I'm sure there's a whole army of people on here that think that car should be in attendance the first weekend of June.
Good luck with the car!

Re: New Here...
Tim, where at in Pennsylvania are you located? Fingers crossed that the answer is "western" but even if it isn't, you need to get out to Carlisle with that thing in June. No excuses!

Re: Viechel Wrap
I can't speak for doing it on a Merkur, but I know that it's been becoming a more common occurrence around here lately. I've seen some cars that were wrapped and it's certainly interesting. People have been doing it because it's often cheaper than a full paint job. Also, I know that they offer warra...

Re: Potential for more wheel options for us
Just saw this today with a special thanks to fifteen52 for supplying the wheels. Made me think of this so I figured I'd drop a link.

Re: Fender well/splash guard
Here's the thread where I posted up all the pics and info that I had when I used the Mustang liners. http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=17689&hilit=fender+liners I know some people went through rockauto.com instead of going to the store as I did, but as long as you have o...

Re: Won't build boost, chugs and misfires...AGAIN
Ran perfect for the last 300 miles since my last post until last night leaving a car cruise... it's back. It's doing the same thing again except this time I have fuel. Still seeming like a boost leak, we put a different (very nice, I might add) BPV off of Dad's car on it which didn't change anything...

Re: Won't build boost, chugs and misfires.
FINALLY FIXED. That was a mess. The (initial, at least) problem was the fuel pressure regulator. Less than 1 1/2 years and 4k miles ago we replaced the fpr. Took it off today and you could blow right through it. Gotta back up a bit... After the initial problems the car decided to die completely and ...

Re: Won't build boost, chugs and misfires.
It really sucks when you change something, get a (seemingly) informative response, and then it turns out that you were pretty much just unlucky... The good news is that I have not ordered a new BPV yet because it seems that's NOT the problem. Bear with me, I'm fairly sure that I'm not losing my mind...

Re: Won't build boost, chugs and misfires.
I guess that when it came to researching BPV vs. BOV for our cars it seemed like there were two camps and reasons why people would never/always use one over the other. It was recommended by my tuning shop to recirc and I ultimately decided that I would be fine either way as long as I picked a route ...

Re: Won't build boost, chugs and misfires.
My forge has been performing flawlessly now for years. I think that is a good choice. My main complaint about the forge is that it's nearly impossible to hook up a duck call or turkey call to it. Specifically, I'm ordering a Forge Splitter Valve for a couple of reasons... The excellent review...

Re: Won't build boost, chugs and misfires.
I went with a $40 knockoff BPV (recirc'd) from siliconeintakes.com when I bought all of my intercooler piping supplies. What's weird is that it worked perfectly for a month and then out of nowhere these problems started. It figures that the BPV is one of the only places that I tried to save a buck b...
