Re: FS: Cossie exh housing with JVAB downpipe elbow

Hi, Chris,

I am seriously interested in the Cossie exhaust housing and JVAB elbow. I am temporarily local to you, relatively speaking, Phoenix is a big town.

I have PM'ed you a cash/local pick up offer

Re: Merkur desktop

might be on the fritz. I rarely use it, but I just tried following the link from the MCA home page and it gives me the same error.

FWIW, I use an iMac with the Safari browser

see the sticky in Frequently Asked Questions. Good info on what to look for when buying an XR4TI and dated info on market values.

Re: So, maybe turbo time...

I hope it works too! Keeping heat in the exhaust is good for turbo spool and keeping heat off the intake plumbing is good for air density, so it's potentially a double-win. :) I much prefer a heat shield to any sort of wrap which can get wet or create hot spots and cause problems, or wear out and n...

Re: XR coolant hoses

A couple of months ago, I used BAT to source 9 replacement hoses for my '85 XR4TI, including upper and lower radiator.. They didn't have every single hose and I'm not where I will source the ones they didn't have... We can help you out on any missing ones. I have new Ford / Motorcraft ones on hand,...

Re: Tricks & tips for removing camshaft

When my '85 XR4TI was running back in the '90s, I did the valve stem seal upgrade and made a tool to compress the valve springs with the head in the car. When my GF gets home from work, I'll try to take a pic. Basically, I used 2 pieces of 3/8 steel rod about a foot long and put a 30 or 35 degree be...

Re: Harbor Freight Slide Hammer?

yes, indeed, that looks like the passenger side with the pinch bolt drilled out and replaced with a new, longer bolt and a nut... in my case, I ruined the original spindle in 2 places and got a JY replacement that I could put in a vise on the workbench to do the work. I was able to partially drill o...

Re: Exhaust choices

I like the exhaust note on my Borla, even though it's not 3". Of course, it cost me $400 from Rapido back in the '90s and it has a lifetime warranty, so I'm not likely to drop $300-$400 on Mike's snazzy 3" set-up any time soon.

Re: 1985 XR4ti rebuild/restore project Phase 1

no progress this month. budget got shot due to $400 worth of work to the GF's Subaru (brakes, ball joint) so it can pass state inspection and new hoses from BAT are still sitting in a box waiting to be installed on the Merkur. then my step-daughter had to move out of a rented house by 6/23 and waite...

Re: Harbor Freight Slide Hammer?

managed to get this job done without special tools. Haynes manual has conflicting information, under "ball joint removal", it says pop the stud out of control am, loosen the pinch bolt and use the stud as a handle to pull the ball joint out of the spindle. good luck with that! under contro...

1972 pantera barn find!

I found an auction in my area on August 12 for a 1972 Pantera project and I just may attend and see if I can pick it up for a bargain price. :cheers I've loved these cars since I was a teenager and the prospect of having a 351 Cleveland rumbling in my garage again is irresistible. In doing some rese...

Re: Harbor Freight Slide Hammer?

Interested to know how this tool could be used to "pull a ball joint" out...? I've got an HF ball joint remover tool that works well. Looks NOTHING like the slide hammer tool above. YMMV On the 2002 Subaru Forester, the body of the ball joint is seated in a blind bore in the spindle :bang...
