Re: '89 coolant bottle cap leak....

Yup, you would think I had just asked someone for the holy grail when I walk into a parts store and say "I need one of these caps" holding the offending cap in my hand. I would have better luck asking for headlight fluid or muffler bearings.

'89 coolant bottle cap leak....

Couldn't find too much info with searches so I'll just ask. My 89 is starting to leak coolant from the cap of the fill/reservoir tank. At least I hope it is from there and not the glued seam of the plastic tank itself. No luck for a replacement cap at any local autoparts store, any recommendations f...

Re: Shorty rad/rs500 coolant temps

Those seem high to me. YMMV Last shorty rad would run me about 185-190 chilling around town, highway got cooler, aggressive driving it would sit around 200-205. Putting in a shorty on the new car once my fans arrive, ill be able to give you another set of data points then.

Re: Denver area XR's?

I may take you up on those cold beers and some tinkering fun. I have 3 broken bolts in the exhaust side of my turbo that I am going to have to remove very soon. Rather do it myself and not pay a machine shop that will end up overcharging me. (Don't have a small machine shop in my garage out here com...

Hi hi everyone. Just seeing if anyone is around SLC this weekend. I'm driving my '89 XR to there from Denver to cheer on my friends at Crossfit's Regionals competition. Would love to grab a coffee with anyone around for the weekend. Shoot me a text if anyone is interested 269-906-1205

Re: Denver area XR's?

We should have a get together soon, grill up some food and play with our cars. I'd love to meet my fellow local XR crazies. And Euroford I just finished emissions testing last week. Had plenty of room for all my atmospheric poison values.

Re: Denver area XR's?

I just got back into the XR world since I moved out west. I am based out of the Stapleton area now. Running a mono red 89(third one I have owned).

The oil breather/separator should be a small black can with a vacuum line running away from it, at the back of the top of the motor, behind the air intake. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but you do not want to have a pcv jammed in there. At least that is how I interpreted your statement, sounds l...

Just an update, finally got enough freedom to spend some serious time on the car. Thanks to everyone's unbelievably helpful advice I have been able to make tons of progress. This will be a bit of a run on paragraph coming up, but oh well. Tonight I got the car started and running. Replaced all the b...

I'll second what Jay Tibo just said. I just got my first XR a few weeks ago, as a good condition car I planned to project out. No real car experience but a very solid base for troubleshooting and mechanical understanding already under my belt from my job. (bicycle mechanic) These cars are amazingly ...

Yes that was my tentative plan. Fabricating up a line to make that left to right jump over to the engine. The vertical blue line is a hose that already exists coming from the top of the water pump, I am just adding a T fitting to complete the crossover. Cool, I will solder up a nice brass fitting fo...
