Re: I am out of ideas
Boy this sounds familiar. After being in your shoes and trying everything you have done plus some I was at my wits end. My car sat for quite some time too. Besides what you’ve done I also did a compression test and also swapped the ecu plus some other stuff. I took the fuel rail out secured the inje...

Re: Broken Dreams, Circumstances & Choices
I wanted a trailer but with the explorer they would only rent me a dolly. This was a newer one and not a rollover lawsuit vintage unit.

Re: Broken Dreams, Circumstances & Choices
Hi all, Question: Is the XR a four wheels on the ground long distance towable car or will there be issues in the gear box when towed that far? I don't know the answer but do know serious problems will be caused if it is incompatible. Perhaps put it backwards on a two wheels dolly? Others have done ...

Re: Cobra brake upgrade
I have not done this directly but I was looking into it. I had pbr calipers lock up on 2 separate occasions so was looking for a different solution. I ended up replacing the pistons in the pbr caliper with those from a Camaro, see this thread: http://forum.merkurclub.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&...

Re: Most hated car at Carlisle
It was there last year or the year before too. Talked with him for a few minutes and he was friendly and loved talking about his project.
Nothing wrong with a little creativity, and in the Carlisle mustang flatlands it does stand out.

Re: Very Very Early XR4Ti
From the shock towers and master cylinder I would say that looks like a mustang engine bay. Definitely a lot different like AC lines, power steering reservoir, battery placement etc.

Thanks for sharing that Mike. A cool bit of engineering that makes me want to put the biwing hatch on my 88 like it was meant to be.

Re: Poor Mileage & Whine from FP area
I would be looking for a vacuum leak first. That will cause FP to increase at idle and cruise and reduce milage. Check the vacuum tree as well. There should be one cap on there and it can deteriorate and get launched off with some boost if it’s not a good cap or clamped in some way. Next check the o...

Re: Tachometer Repair
Looks like ltspice for the schematic, no? Did a quick resoldering on mine this year but didn’t produce much difference. Mine works but the rpm is just low and movement seems lazy. Was going to try replace the aging caps next and see what that yields. Assume you’ve been down that road before if you’v...

Just chiming in that I love mine. The rear bar made a huge difference in handling even on the stock springs. If you can afford it go for it!

Re: Strut damper?
It’s possible your talking about the bump stop as well. Those are orangish and are likely disintegrating by now. If thats what you are mentioning the strut should need to come out and the upper seat and spring removed to replace it. The one linked comes with the bellows. https://www.rockauto.com/en/...

Re: T9 Clutch Reservoir?
T9 is a cable clutch so no reservoir. If the fluid was red it’s likely type f transmission fluid as used in the power steering system.
