Wow. Glad you found the solution Brad. I didn't think that was possible!

Re: Flex Joint options... <aka Guibo, Giubo>

Just for reference, the 'Flex Coupling' I have had on my XR since 1997 is a Beck Arnley 103-2103 and cost me $75 in March 1997. I know this thread is talking about Scorpios but I believe I fitted the same part to my son's Scorpio. Mine has lasted those 27 years and the car has been driven hard. I wi...

Re: Scorpio Game Show - Name That Failure

I searched a bit and can't find a way to bench test these coils. The failed one had identical resistance to the good one. When I have had coils fail in the past (admittedly on other non Merkurs), they test OK with a regular meter but it's the insulation that breaks down. The spark happens, but it's...

The graphic is based on Building G at Carlisle where we were at Carlisle 2010. This is now the home of Desperate Times Brewing.

Re: Carlisle 2022 Feedback - Please read

Another great show and great conversations. There were still people I didn’t have a chance to talk with! 1. Did you attend Carlisle this year? If not, why not? What would make you want to attend in 2023? >> Oh yes! I’ll be there. 2. Overall, using your own criteria, how did you feel this year's Carl...

Re: Buzzer underdash. I must kill it.

The chime module I have had on my ‘89XR for 25 years is this one. It’s on the passenger side behind the passenger seat warmer switch and does not require the removal of the lower dash. Just reach up and you will find it. The Motorcraft number is: E6AB-10D840-A2A and it appears to be from ‘87-‘91 F15...

Let’s see if we can get all 1106 Merkurs on the registry! If your car isn’t on there - please add it!

How many Merkurs are still on the road?

This topic keeps coming up and I stated at Carlisle 2021 that I thought that the number of XR4Ti still on the road (as in registered and insured) was probably only a thousand or so. This was based on the attrition I have seen over 30+ years of Merkur ownership and the various surveys we have done. T...

Re: Ford Tempo Front Springs

On the rear of my XR which was always running low I finally added the spacers that Russ sells to the bottom of the springs. These are some sort of plastic type material like the Urethane suspension bushings and clip to the bottoms of the springs. They worked well and increased the rear height by 1.2...

Merkur Registry

On the Carlisle showfield this year, I met a new owner, Bill Bailey, with a clean ‘89 XR that we worked out was built the day after mine and only 9 VIN numbers away. This lead us to a discussion regarding the Merkur Registry which we had about 15 years ago. Anyway I dugout the information, updated i...
