Re: 2.3 turbo vs 2.3 N/A specs
If you heard the turbo motors have hardened seats, thats not exactly true. The NA and turbo motors both hard flame hardened cast iron seats, which is basically the minimum hardening process used. If you want a head to last, especially turbo, and avoid the eventual cracking you should just plan on ha...

Re: Best fuel pressure regulator?
OEM is often best for reliability and consistent performance. But Kirban lets you adjust pressure and handle high levels of flow. Changing pressure is usually only useful as a cheat method to slightly increase fuel flow by raising pressure. Increasing flue flow via proper tuning is a better option, ...

Re: long time no see....12 years later...ecu option/opinions
I would not even consider an SDS. Go Pimp or other Megasquirt based setup. The pimp is great because its plug and play, and you can ditch the VAM entirely. It was the single best upgrade I ever did to mine.

Re: Remote TFI Heatsink
I had heat problems with mine, remote location solved the issue and took away the intermittent hiccups the car would experience. The idea that TFIs just suddenly quit is false, on mine as it approached the critical heat, I would start getting misfires, particularly after I had stopped at a light on ...

Re: Oil Cooler Failure
I would think it's odd for the HG to go just from sitting and I did run straighter water in the system for a while. Friend on mine had a 1993 Ford Taurus wagon with 28,000 original miles. Car had sat for about 6 years without being driven. Turns out the original owner had never changed the fluids o...

Re: Head Gasket and Stud Questions
I will add my two cents. The stock head and deck, even if flat, are not machined with a very smooth surface. The factory finish is fine for stock type gaskets, though it would be more resistant to failures if it was smoother. But MLS gaskets in my experience require a smoother finish to get a consis...

Re: upgrade to modern coolant?
The coolant I used was the Heavy Duty Coolant (I just told them what I was using it for) It was the stuff with the yellow label. The problem with that forum link is you have people who arguably admit that they have neither used the product, nor know what the additive package in the product is. There...

Re: MerkurDepot Intercooler and Radiator
I got mine ordered up. I will hold off on the cold side tubing, just getting all the Merkurdepot parts on route.
I'm hoping to get my car put together this fall.

Re: upgrade to modern coolant?
I have done the Evans Waterless conversion, I would have to say that coolant is totally worth it. If you are concerned about getting all the water out, they have a special flushing solution for that purpose. If you drain the block, radiator, and all hoses, then blow it out with compressed air, that ...

Re: Superchips
I personally wouldn't bother with one. You can get a Jaybird setup, which allows you to burn your own chip, or upgrade to a Quarterhorse which allows the same, but with live tuning, and add on circuits. Or you can ditch stock computers altogether and convert to a PIMP, which is what I use and I love...

Re: 87 xr4ti no spark
Have you had the TFI tested to see if its good? the TFI system will spark with no computer input, so if you have no spark it is not likely that the ECU has any part in it. The TFI is a simple standalone ignition computer that can use input for the computer for retard or advance information, and in s...

Mine is a ways off, buy I'm using Roadkill to sound deaden the interior as much as possible as a starting point. I'm also using rubberized underbody coating in many areas as well. I don't have my speakers selected yet, I have not had the time or money to work on this car much. I have the head unit I...

Good luck with that. I hope you are flushing the system and replacing the other components too, not just the compressor? I've got to change a compressor on my '87 Thunderbird.

Probably not related, but what kind of oil are you using? This is especially important if this is a slider type setup. I'm not sure if that cam is a slider or roller.
