thats the bracket/shield i was talking about... to me sounds like you found the problem...

I think you should change it anyway. . It only dos good to it..

It does snap in and out but if I remember currently. . There is a screw with a bracket that needs to be removed before you snap it out..

the modulator is on the passenger side , middle upper section of the tranny.. the exhaust down pipe made it difficult for me to replace because is in the way.. i also had that problem with my auto tranny but changing the modulator fixed it.. i have to admit thou is still not 100% but good enough tha...

automatic transmission??? try changing the Vacuum Shift Modulator.. cheapest 1st step to do.. (if the exhaust wasn't in the way ill say its super easy to change or if i had small hands it will be easy to change...)
