Re: Alternate sun visors

Has anyone ever looked at using a set of sun visors from an alternate, more modern vehicle? Two reasons come to mind... 1) Replace an aging, dried-up/cracked visor with a more modern part. 2) Install a visor with a Homelink transmitter installed. Anyone looked at this or do I need to be first? I wa...

Re: Odd paint color

Fairly new to the merkur scene but I’m wondering about this paint option I’ve seen. It’s a “triple black” merkur with double gold pin stripes. I can’t find this anywhere on the forum or online and I’ve seen not only one but two cars with this paint job. Was this an actual thing? Both were late mode...

Re: Hagerty: 7 classics under $10K that you should snatch up

I don't know if any XR exists that gets exclusively hauled around. "Minty" original and restored cars will probably have to do. $5900 won't buy one of those either. Exactly, it could be $20,000, because there is probably no such thing. Maybe the Henry Ford Museum has one in the basement, but its ti...

Re: Rit dye for carpet

These practically shoot the hatch open. I can't imagine your speakers would make them drop. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L2G4O08/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Thank you, sir! Just ordered a set. $26, and free shipping! Woot! :cheers Quite a bit stronger than OEM when the car wa...

Re: Proper Brake feel (and wheel questions)

I would suspect a worn throwout bearing, possibly the T9 input shaft bearing. T5 swap was already done.. it sounds mechanically linked to pedal... It's like how a door creaks when you open and close it.. same noise in both directions. But IDK what it truly is. If a T5 swap has been done i would che...

Re: New to Merkurs - Where is this oil coming from?

Ah is that why everyone switches to the later valve cover? Everyone doesn't, but it is an improved design. In addition to the improved breather, you get a screw-on oil cap as well. Many prefer the looks of the earlier style. I do like the looks of the earlier one, which was fine when it was new and...

Screenshot_2018-11-28-16-34-26-270x480.png Yea, I know. But look further at this dude's FaceBook page. Looks like a first class douche. I think I'd trust all of the other 5 star reviews over his one bad one. Plus, I know the owner. He'd stand behind his product. I've been in his shop when a complai...

Re: Rit dye for carpet

My original package tray has been modified for 6x9 speakers. :puke Rockettes first XR had the same problem, the added weight of the speakers would overcome the gas struts that held the hatch open. I changed the struts, but the hatch hitting you in the head problem wasn't solved... These prac...

Re: New to Merkurs - Where is this oil coming from?

Also, sprayed the crud out of the oil separator with carb cleaner until everything came out clear and tasted great. As this is an 85 car, is there anything that should go into the valve cover where the oil separator goes? It feels like it's metal on metal. https://payload.cargocollective.com/1/8/27...

Re: Proper Brake feel (and wheel questions)

This would be tough as its not a hydraulic clutch. Just an "old school" manually operated cable. You're right that would make it extremely hard. That would also explain the squeal when I release the clutch pedal.. What is that? I would suspect a worn throwout bearing, possibly the T9 input shaft be...

Ohio Generator can get an alternator that works and has the output you need. They do it all the time for high-end audio installations. Probably won't be cheap though. https://www.facebook.com/pg/OHIOGEN/rev ... e_internal

Re: Sunroof Drains - Where are they

Just keep in mind, it's very often NOT one of the 4 drains being clogged that is the interior leak cause, but rather, a tired and dried out seal that surrounds the sunroof glass. The water gets by the seal and eventually leaks overhead, often rusting out the sunroof metal bracing when left unchecke...

Kilz will help seal the odor in for whatever you can't remove on the floor. Also a good time to use POR15 to stop the rust.

Re: just another day and rare k2/xr4ti find

My dad was determined to daily drive his XR back in the day, and ran 4 studded snows in the winter. At least the Lotus was mid-engined. I daily drove mine from 86-96. I had to park at the end of my brick driveway, and manhole covers were always interesting when it was rainy or snowy, but for the mo...
