Re: 88 & 89 parts

Ya, it's the climate control. These people can rebuild them, but that cost 80 bucks. https://modulemaster.com/products/ford-lincoln-mercury-electronic-automatic-temperature-control-eatc-climate-control-rebuild I saw on Wheeler Dealers a place in the UK that rebuilt the ABS computers, but this is cl...

I could use a spare EATC if the price is right.
What is the EATC? Climate control module?
Yes.

Re: New owner of a new to me xr4ti

Is rapido still open? I tried calling but no answer. Yes, but Russ is slowing down a bit. I'm not sure if his son Mike is working there or just helping. Leave a message and or send an e-mail and he'll respond eventually. He did have some pretty major health issues pre-COVID, so I imagine he is stil...

Re: New owner of a new to me xr4ti

I didn't know you had all those miles on your XR. It looked brand new the last time I saw it. I bought it with 240,000 on it. Bob Barrett made all of the upgrades to it when it had 200K on it. Since you've seen it it has had a Merkur sign fall into it and a shopping kart hit it from a lazy bastard ...

A/C O-rings

Replaced the compressor and after putting the manifold back on everything worked fine. A few days later the Scorpio is up on the rack and it is noted the compressor is leaking. IT seems to be leaking around the o-rings in the manifold. Does anyone have a known good source for o-rings for the Scorpio...

Re: New owner of a new to me xr4ti

Sounds smart. XR is a great car for a masochist such as yourself. Buying a used turbo car from the eighties is a good idea, even if site unseen. Don't listen to what anyone else tries to tell you. So put some lotion on and go pick up your new car. Relax, it's getting I ride back on a trailer and pa...

Must have sold. Looking at the front passenger tire, it must have been pretty deep into the ground at one time.

The Monte Carlo and what looks like a Pontiac Fiero don't fit with the rest of them. Other than the Saabs, I don't recognize any of them.

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

I've always told people that my goal is to build the car the way Ford SHOULD have built it in the first place. I'm in the same demographic (53 here), and get what you're saying. Your statement above probably means different things to different people, because (worldwide) Ford built Sierras in so ma...

Re: I think this would have sold in US

Would have been nice, but probably cursed with a worse (sales) fate than Scorpios. How would it have been marketed? IIRC there were something like 8 times the number of Mercury Sables sold in Sept.-Dec. in '88 alone vs. all the Scorpios combined. Just like a 5.0L XR would have been a direct (and be...

I see the things parked all over the darn place. :D
Ohio had quite a few Merkur dealers in the day. A quick count in the Merkur Dealership Directory shows 45 of the 700 as of 1988 in Ohio, 3 times the average per state.

Re: Turbo life...

Hi all, I have the original exhaust manifold on it at this time. I wondered if it was an E6 or not. So, I am looking for an '88 Tbird manifold or a later XR manifold? I have a 3" downpipe that I bought recently and it's not installed yet as it requires a new larger pipe size cat and the rear exhaus...

Re: Turbo life...

I sold a good used one a few years back, I think for 100 dollars. Check any used one for shaft play before you buy it. I'm not sure how hard it would be to rebuild the old one or if it is worth it. The BW turbocoupe one is smaller. A new T3/T4 hybrid is an option, but I have heard both good and bad...

Re: Sitting with a blown head gasket

North or south of Akron? I'm in Jackson TWP, in between Canton and Akron. Mike is in Barberton, but probably uses Akron as a point of reference since hardly anyone knows the former match capital of the world. I am southeast of Akron, East Liverpool, right on the border of PA and WV. Funny that Barb...
