Re: Contemplating manual steering conversion...

Would have to use a manual steering shaft along with it I believe. Right, and good luck finding just that. I *think* these would be the correct part, with a wide range of prices: https://www.motomobil.com/steering-idler-shaft-not-for-power-steering-not-4wd-lhd,3237,60959030-1.html https://www.ebay....

Plaid pants, white belts and white shoes weren't part of the Merkur sales guy dress code.
My uncle who probably had the Cartier ring you linked-- he definitely had that outfit.

Have any of you tried one of these?

They don't list a quick ratio for left hand drive.

Re: Here's a unique item.

My Uncle worked at Lincoln/Mercury/Merkur dealership for a long time, before and after Merkur. He started as an office clerk and eventually owned the dealership. That ring was definitely his style and I wouldn't have been surprised if he owned one of them (if it wasn't unique).

Could it be the speedometer cable?

What ever happened with this project?
This seems to be the car as the photos in one of the videos are the same as those in this thread. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCAEk8 ... kwNoE1SSTQ

This guy put the 2.0L ecoboost into the XR4tI. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBV726Y9z04 Notice he mentions using the Ranger oil pan. That means he had to wait until the Ranger was released this year to make the swap work. In the comments on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA4gRRyc6sc ...

Re: Marine/Aviation Grade Wire Termination

Thanks. This is helpful. I went through so much frustration wiring up my Scorpio headlights because of cheap crimp connectors I bought on Amazon. I re-did some of the connections 3 times before I compared the crimps to another tray that I had.

Re: 5.0L XR Not Passing Smog

Seems like a good plan. I would clean the MAF sensor wires then too as that's relatively cheap and won't take much time. I really don't think the Ford computer likes Bosch O2 sensors very well. I think that during that era, NTK was the OE manufacturer for Ford O2 sensors. I had problem with a brand ...

Also, what brand are the O2 sensors? Are you running speed density or MAF?

Re: 5.0L XR Not Passing Smog

John, my data is a bit crummy because I threw a whole bunch of changes at the car at once without being scientific about it. And my goal was to reduce HC as my NOx reading was fine. But my NOx went down drastically in the process. I do know that-- A hotter spark plug is more resistant to fouling tha...

Re: 5.0L XR Not Passing Smog

Short version: If it's not a big deal for you to re-test a couple of times then first I'd try running your gas down to a couple gallons, add a quart or so of ethanol/denatured alcohol, and then get it tested. Right after the test fill up on gas to dilute out the remaining alcohol. (Different people ...

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade - Nissan/Infiniti

checking the u-picks near me, there aren't any 4 cylinder Isuzu's to be found. There are tons of Xterras but *none* with the 2.4.
I'll keep my eye on their inventory and if one of the vehicles on that list shows up, I will go pull a pulley for the cause!

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade - Nissan/Infiniti

... As long as I was in the import section, I went looking for a V-belt pulley. You may recall from our earlier discussion that 90's Hondas and Nissans were supposed to be possible donors. That info is false. Every single one I looked at had a Micro-V belt pulley, not V-belt. So I'll either need to...
