Re: Looking for input while inspecting the stock piston

When measuring the side clearance without the rings, the value fell within the factory specs Top two ring grooves: .080-.081" Oil ring groove: .188-.189" Not surprisingly, the measurement was closer to the upper range. John, your comment reminded me to check again now that I have the new r...

Looking for input while inspecting the stock piston

I'm curious to get some feedback on this piston out of my primarily stock XR that is being rebuilt. The one posted below is in the absolute worst condition, relative to the others. Only this one and one other show what appears to be very minor predetonation damage on the surface, however, all of the...

Re: Chip on the outside of the cylinder head

I started a youtube video called "garage 6" on head porting the 2.3L https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ-x-OzDusU&feature=em-upload_owner let me know what you think Also the best bet for getting a non-cracked head is to get one from an NA Mustang/Ranger/Fairmont/etc. The differences be...

Re: Chip on the outside of the cylinder head

Cool, thanks for confirming. By the way Conner, are those the stock intake valves? They look larger for some reason.

Re: Chip on the outside of the cylinder head

Thanks for taking a look at it. Now that I'm surer there isn't a problem with the head, the experimenting can begin. For those of you that have or are interested in porting, have you come across particularly good reading material on air flow dynamics in an engine?

Chip on the outside of the cylinder head

Pulled the head off this weekend because of white smoke coming out of the exhaust and coolant building up in the pipe, probably because of overboosting and going lean a couple weekends ago (and the whole 25+ years old thing). The pictures below show a chip in the head. The material from the chip in ...

New member, but not new to the forum.

Came across a fellow sierra/xr enthusiast this past weekend who motivated me to get on the board. It was an easy decision because I owe the group a thanks. Between the shop manual that came with the car when it was purchased last summer and the willingness of merkur owners to share their knowledge, ...
