Re: SVO Turbo
I'd first look for vacuum/air intake leaks (VAM to turbo; turbo to TB; TB-intake manifold gaskets), then possible exhaust clog (loosen down pipe to converter and road test). YMMV 8) Thanks, should have thought of that since I have a fairly bad vacuum leak in my other car. Since I've already got the...
SVO Turbo
I have been working on getting my turbo out of my car, as it has been boosting weird. It boosts smooth to 5 psi quickly, holds, then "pops" to 10. (looking at stock gauge, so i'm sure it's inaccurate). I'm just curious as to how likely it is that the compressor wheel has hit the housing an...

Re: Rebuilding an XR4TI
Nicely done Conner! I'll have to start working on my XR so we can have a few young guys working on these old birds. First I have to fix my Audi's rear diff though.
Your car looks sweet, can't wait to see some video of it running.

Re: New attempt at a law to make working on your own car ill
At 19, I cringe at the thought of letting other people my age work on my car, even if they are as knowledgeable as I am (which honestly, isn't very much). I know that for a fact that I know more about cars than all but a small percentage of people my age, factor in knowledge specific to my XR and Au...

Re: Gay conservatives rebut media-Indiana religious freedom
PC totalitarianism is rampant in high schools and universities, with disgraceful unquestioning mass media/Hollywood support. YMMV 8) Tell me about it! Even at a fairly conservative university (BYU) you still run into a lot of these types. What surprises me is how much they think they know, despite ...

Re: Gay conservatives rebut media-Indiana religious freedom
This isn't really about religious freedom, it’s about… freedom. So True. The owner of private property can, and should be able to tell people to leave, for any reason. It also seems true to me that the majority of those calling for "tolerance" etc. are the most intolerant and unaccepting ...

Re: 12 Weeks to go!!!
I'd love to go, either driving or flying, but since I'd need some financial help from my parents, and they don't want me to go, it just isn't likely to happen. Maybe I'll get supremely lucky and they'll change their minds, but I just don't see it. Especially driving, as my particular XR hasn't seen ...

Re: 12 Weeks to go!!!
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it :( My parents aren't comfortable with the idea of me driving my merkur from Colorado, I'll be 19, but since I need my parents help for college, and I need to work, it just simply won't happen. I was looking forward to meeting a bunch of fellow merkur enthusi...

Re: Uh, Shouldn't That Be MerkurXR4Ti With It's Hood Up...?
I've been impressed, I've met a couple of employees at autozone who not only know what a Merkur is, but have either owned an SVO, or know someone who owns a Merkur. Some of the People at my local Big O Tires know the Merkur as well.andyofcolumbusmerkur wrote:Plus it's been my experience they don't even know what a Merkur is.

Re: 12 Weeks to go!!!
Gosh I hope I can make it. I won't be home until late april though, and my car absolutely needs a turbo rebuild, suspension work, through-out bearing/possible input shaft, and either U-joints or a guibo before I would even remotely consider driving that car all the way to Carlisle from Colorado. Tha...

Re: Engine Rebuild Recommendations in SoCal
I actually asked what autozone would charge for a short block once just for fun, they quoted me 2400. Who knows whether it would be any good or not, just thought it was interesting and semi relevant.
