Re: Why are new cars so expensive?

Also, everything's a CUV and they command a price premium. The wife wanted one. She likes the Infiniti QX30, which is the compact CUV that they made in a joint venture with Mercedes. We found one that was just the way she wanted it, then I said "Now, here's what you can get if you forget about this ...

But the manufacturers don't make money on the used vehicles.
They do very well on leases and CPOs sell the returns at a higher price (increasing the residual), so they do profit indirectly from them.

Re: Why are new cars so expensive?

Thanks to Tesla, the screens are about to get completely out of hand. I will never own a car that has a mega screen or that requires a phone to do anything. I navigate with my phone (the Cruze doesn't have nav), but I don't even have the phone paired to the car. This young lady seems to really like...

Re: Why are new cars so expensive?

Follow-up question: Why do they depreciate so quickly, since so much money goes into their design, manufacture, safety equipment, etc? :dunno I take advantage of this "market correction". Why buy a new mid level milquetoast mass market sedan when you can buy something that someone paid $60K+ for ne...

Haven't seen this one before.

It'll look good on my windshield next to my other brochures.

I'm always on the prowl for unusual stuff that I can display at shows and I pay good money when something gets my attention.

Re: Blower Motor resistor option

If you wanted to completely disassemble the box and get at the blower motor that way you can, but I believe you need to remove the engines valve cover. Maybe someone else can chime in if they know an easier way. It's been a long time since I did it, but what I did was cut the top of the cover in ha...

Re: Blower Motor resistor option

That stupid resistor was a constant source of trouble on my old '85 XR. I don't know how many blew, but I got good at swapping 'em. Heater never getting hot when it was cold (like now) was another thing. I don't know if something was done differently by '89, but so far mine has not had these problem...

According to wheeler dealers it's worth about 7k
Could be if the seller can figure out how to get it on national TV.
Or not.

Re: Car Show Season

Stored away until the next car show season... 18 weeks from next Saturday! Just in the nick of time... it is snowing today. Yuck. Thanks for promoting the marque! You're welcome, Bob. It's fun. When I roll in now there are people that say "Time for the flags to fly!" It's almost become my trademark...

Re: Did you like the Wheeler Dealers XR episode?

Now that the episode has aired and I've had time to think about it, Mr. Picky Pants will put in his 2 cents. The thing that sets the tone for the restoration is the desire to maintain the "stock" appearance of the gray cladding. They also went to the trouble of hunting down a good set of phone dial ...

Re: Did you like the Wheeler Dealers XR episode?

What the hell was that exhaust... was it original? The snakey exhaust is indeed original. I had an '85 that looked just like the Wheeler Dealers car, except it had a sunroof... I swapped it for a Borla. But then they deleted the intercooler Yeah... this was supposed to be some sort of track car. Th...
