Re: AC Receiver Dryer Sourcing

What is different about dessicant for use with R12 and with R134a? YMMV I've heard that some R12 receiver/drier dessicants can turn to gel if R134a is used, I think that might apply to the mineral oil mixing with the PAG oil if you don't use Ester and don't change the receiver/drier right after doi...

AC Receiver Dryer Sourcing

Hello Merkurites, A little backstory: I am delving into getting my A/C working again, the previous owner had the system converted to R134a. After vacuuming the system I began to fill it with freon and found a huge leak out of the high pressure hose routed above the turbo. After using a sketchy splic...

Re: T9 Gear Oil to Use

I ended up going with Red Line GL4 75W-90. It is significantly cheaper and I have seen many threads that indicate putting Red Line in has quieted down the T9. I will report as to whether or not this improves the whirring noises I have been hearing, and thanks for all the replies!

T9 Gear Oil to Use

Morning everyone, My T9 recently started making whirring noises in lower gears when cold, check the fluid level and it is pretty low, I can't even feel it through the fill hole. That being said, I will suck out what is left and fill it with "other" stuff. I just need a clear answer to what...

Re: Another Oil Pan thread.

Matt,
Just wondering if you used the seal installation tool outlined in the service manual or if you made due without it? Thanks.

Re: Oil Pan Gasket

Thanks very much, I will order the right gasket and buy the $20 cover alignment tool equivalent for the seal from MC2. I have also ordered a couple tubes of RTV sealant since I'm doing water pump/thermostat and will apply it as I see necessary. Thanks for the info!

Oil Pan Gasket

Hello XR lovers, I am confused about the two different styles of oil pan gaskets. I ordered a front crank seal for my 88 XR which came with a partial oil pan gasket, 1 piece of silicon semi-circle and 2 small cork pieces. From my understanding, this is for an early 85-87 XR. The later XR (I think) c...

Re: tire pressure question

Tire will give you the maximum, not what the manufacturer recommends for the car. If your '88 came with Spatulas, it's not a "Late '88." My first XR was a late-'88 I got brand-new, and it had mesh... basically, everything the '89's had except the cooling system revisions. Yes, sorry I mea...

Re: tire pressure question

Sorry to bring up an old post, but the factory sticker in my door jamb says 26 psi. I find this way too low and always inflate to around 33-35, however I just thought I would share this interesting information. I have an early 88 with 15" spatulas.

Also we could add ones found in Junkyards to that list.
I think parts cars which people own is fine, but we should leave off junkyard cars, since they will likely be crushed at some time in the not-so-distant future.
