Re: My 3g install factory location
I'm kind of new to all this and this might sound stupid, but what are the advantages of this? Is it that this alternator charges better, or is just widely available when compared to stock, or is it both? Maybe I just answered my own question... 6) Can be installed as a 1-wire setup, eliminating the...

Re: I dropped the fuel tank...
Go to a craft supply store and buy some 1/4" or 3/16" medium or high density foam panels. I did that when I did mine and they worked great. The object is to keep the tank from rubbing against the body.

Re: WTB: Gearbox T9
With T9s hard to find and prices like these you may want to think about going the T5 route. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Manual-Transmission-XR4Ti-Fits-85-89-MERKUR-216790/353038706356?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item5232bf26b4:g:7-oAAOSwzrZei4rl&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%252Fn...

Re: I dropped the fuel tank...
As far as the rust removal on the inside...white vinegar. No joke. The next time I have to clean one from the inside, I'll go buy 8-10 gallons of the stuff (it's REALLY cheap) and dump it in and let it set. The POR-15 should be used on the outside. Hit it with some course sandpaper to knock all of t...

Re: WTB: Gearbox T9
Check with Norm at www.teamblitz.com. He knows where to find them and can probably even build one for you. The problem that you'll find is that they are VERY popular with Lotus/Morgan 7 guys because they really are a good, light duty trans. Especially for a small/light car application. And the avera...

Re: Shocks and struts
MC2 springs are really the way to go. These cars a WAY undersprung. (Go read the explanation on their site.) I wouldn't do the labor to replace stockers with anything but uprated/stiffer springs.
They're dirt cheap too.

Re: Bov
For my next move I'm thinking 3 inch downpipe and elbow, right now it's just the stock elbow with a hack 2.5 pipe and cherry bomb. Will I gain a lot with the bigger exhaust? Yes. A mandrel bent 3" exhaust should be one of your first mods on an XR4ti. Stinger makes a nice one with a Magnaflow m...

Ok. Tell me why you would disconnect the wastegate to "tune" a turbocharged car?andyofcolumbusmerkur wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 10:02 am You won't blow the engine with 10 lbs of boost (or zero boost) just because you have no boost controller. Now if the diaphragm is bad inside the wastegate then yes. It will boost to the moon.

Re: XR4ti rear disc with Scorpio calipers
Hey Mike, your site doesn't tell what year Focus rotor you use on the rear. (I have them in a box, but I'm not sure what year they're from.)merkurdriver wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 1:51 am Info and parts for putting Scorpio rear calipers on the XR:

Re: Bov
With the la2 ecu, and adjustable fpr, would it support a t3/t4 turbo? Would it make more power? The stock turbo is good for 275/300hp at the flywheel. There's no need to change it for any goal under that number. If anything, I'd do a "better" compressor wheel and housing on the cold side....

Re: Egr disable?
If I'm not mistaken, I've heard that a nickel will pop right into the port in the intake where the EGR bolts up. Worst case, put the coin in there and put the valve back on. Disabled.

Re: Drivers side bright light
The harness that I currently have comes down the passenger side apron and under the VAM. I believe the "trigger" connects to the driver side connector. I have Euro lights so no connector needs to go to the actual bulbs. Btw, I think they use wire with thicker insulation so it looks "b...

You can google "headlight relay harness" - they are available all over the place. You can buy ones from reputable sources like Susquehanna https://www.rallylights.com/hl281-transition-upgrade-headlamp-harness.html or Painless https://www.painlessperformance.com/wc/30816 or you can buy no-...

This is Gillis' Mk II-- improved over the 1st Gen that worked so well for so many of us for so many years... And still working perfectly for me. Drove the car yesterday. Will probably drive it back to work this afternoon. And, yes, still one of the best "basic" mods you can do to an XR4ti.
