Re: Driveshaft Alignment

As far as I've seen, the ONLY way to do this is to add a washer on each side and measure. Do a couple more and measure again. The difference between the two measurements should be what you're looking for. Keep doing that until you have the smallest variation when the measurement is twisted. It is qu...

Re: Body Cladding Rivets

Hey, you asked. The factory ones have a plastic sheath on them for a reason.

Don't want to listen, that's on you.

Re: Body Cladding Rivets

Anyone have or know where to find the black plastic coated rivets for the XR body cladding (for the lower fender and rocker-panel moldings)? Go figure, I was saving a NOS package if I ever needed them, and now can't find them. I'd try plain AL rivets and paint them flat black, but I think the holes...

Re: 86 XR4Ti

Was there something wrong with the engine before it was parked? I'd just get the darned thing running before yanking it out. It's pretty dangerous to pull an engine and have the car down that long. (Dangerous in that the longer the car sits w/o a major component like an engine, the greater the chanc...

Re: Short shifter installation (Racerwalsh)

I put a rose jointed one in a couple of years ago. It was quite noisy. Packed the joint with grease and silicone the knob and the noise only occurs every so often.

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

I'll have to see if I can get some pics. I sold the only set I had left a few years ago. Recently got the bug again and lucked into a set.

Re: Short shifter installation (Racerwalsh)

Dumb question: Are you pushing the stick DOWN as well as LEFT and FORWARD? When I installed mine, I thought there was a problem, too. It was that the effort required to push the lever down/left was almost imperceptible with the OEM shifter. With the short shifter, it became necessary to think about...

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

I remember looking at those for sale in Columbus (on High Street) and I saw the v6 and was like huh? I thought it was a supercharged v6 Mustang engine back then (not a duratec) and later the Volvo V8 twin turbo V8 on the Top Gear episodes. Cool cars, and almost as fast as the Ultima with the dare I...

Re: A question about paint

I have painted mine black using Dupli-Color "Bumper Black". It looks really good. It actually looks like the Back To Black silicone treatment that you can buy at the parts store. I'm on my work computer and don't have any pics, right now. (I have posted pics of it on the FB page.) If you want to lea...

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

I was referring to you building a car/engine for racing and just transferred that thinking to your 5.0 build. After I read it a couple of times, I realized that what you build is pretty much what I'd build. We don't have smog here in Columbus Ohio. I believe that Dayton and Cleveland area counties h...

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

I thought about the 24 valved DOHC 3.0 liter Taurus motor... Too complicated. I want "dead nuts simple" and easy. (Like me.) As John mentioned, there is a ton of aftermarket support for the 5.0. My existing fuel system will work. I can hook up 3 or 4 wires to a "Mustang" harness and have it operati...

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

Bottom line, I've had others drive this car, guys who race in different classes, guys with Vettes, Camaros, Lotus Esprit Turbo, even my neighbor who has a 2015-something GT500. I asked them for their honest opinion, and what could be improved. Every single one of them says its a blast to drive it; ...

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

Hi all, I imagine the 302 if used would have been the same or lower price than a 2.3 with turbo as it was already US spec for smog. It was also in mass production and sitting on the shelf, not built in Brazil needing a turbo to get reasonable power out of a Pinto block which needed special parts to...

Re: New DD and trying to decide what direction with my XR.

Most if not all suggestions are silent (purposely) on a/c. Working a/c is essential. Every other mod should be optional. YMMV This is correct. The car MUST have excellent air conditioning. So...park the XR until you gather all pertinent suggestions. Get a Scorpio and put a Windsor in it. (After all...
