Re: Runs / Doesn't run
If you're absolutely certain you're losing spark, the next thing to check is injector drive. Disconnect all injectors and plug in a noid light and crank the engine over. If the Hall Switch/PiP sensor is good, and the ECM is good, you'll get a bright flash from the noid light, and that means you can ...

Re: XR4ti won't start! Any suggestions?
The bit where you found that the fuel pump stays on any time the key is in the ON position got my attention. In my experience, that, accompanied by the no-start, is a rare symptom, and is usually caused by a bad PCM. Normally, when the key is turned to the RUN or Crank positions, the PCM turns on th...

Re: Project car won't start
Sorry if i missed this but, has there been any attempt to start the engine with carb cleaner spray (or starting fluid if it's below 40 degrees where you live)?

Re: Duracool refrigerant
If the defroster is engaged, to clear the windshield of ice or fog, doesn't the a/c compressor engage and therefore circulate refrigerant+oil? It is the oil that coats the seals keeping them from drying out and causing leaks, right?

Re: 1986 Merkur XR4Ti
I had a 96 Explorer that got too close to the red on its temp gauge, on the hottest (when I lived in Phoenix) days, with a long enough drive. I noticed a blazing hot upper and mid-radiator, but the lower 4-5 inches were barely warm. The radiator was replaced and the gauge never got beyond the halfwa...

Re: No fuel....
The female terminals in the engine compartment fuse box tend to lose their clamping power over the years, leading to low/no voltage-to-the-pump situations. Remove the fuel pump relay from this fuse box, and get a tiny screwdriver or a pick, and tweak those terminals in a way that will let them grip ...

Re: 1987 XR4TI No start...
I have not read all the posts so I apologize if go down a path that's already been covered. It sounds like you have made sure the fuel delivery system can do its job. The next thing is to make sure the injectors are getting power and a pulsed ground, so that the injectors open. Do you have a set of ...

If you have the original factory brown-top injectors, then don't be surprised if it is the injector itself.

The one huge negative about the place is the obscene cost of real estate.

I believe you are limited to the engine only, as the transmission, rear end, chassis, etc, are different on the mustang

Re: Erratic Temperature
I have had temp sensors read low, then high, if any gunk (mainly when "stop leak" type products are used) has coated/clogged the cooling sysytem. Sometimes you can tell by removing the sensor from the bottom of the lower intake manifold, then watching how slowly it drains the coolant, beca...

Re: Random stalling
I would first check the base idle speed, just to rule out the possibility of the idle control system being near its limit for compensating for the sudden addition of loads on an idling engine. On two occasions, i've been forced to operate my Xr's on just the battery, while i waited for an alternator...

Does it have a tank full of fresh fuel, or is it old/stale gas?
