Re: Speed Sensor Fix Idea-Wondering...

No Ed, that will not work. That circuit just makes pulses, it does not read a sensor... I am afraid the only options are getting a Vss from overseas, finding an original Vss, or building the circuit I posted earlier (link below) and using the reluctor speed sensor from a Ranger (STANDARD MOTOR PRODU...

Re: Dual solenoid A4LD valve body???

... leakage past the hydraulic solenoid bores (on the side of the trans)... What's the cure for this? Is there an o-ring to swap in, or is a new solenoid required? The issue is the servo bores wearing... There is a fix for the later 5R55W transmissions ( https://www.fordservoboretransmissionfixsolu...

Re: Uprated Front Springs

John, Can you see if there is wear on the strut that is indicative of movement in the sleeve? You definitely do not want anti-seize on those surfaces. You want them to clamp tight. Are you sure the "clunking" is not something else like the strut bearings up top? Ball joints? When does the clunking o...

Re: Dual solenoid A4LD valve body???

Is it not possible that items deeper in the tranny are worn and that no change in the valve body will improve the situation? Just something to think about. I'd hate to see you go to the trouble of the shift kit installation and still end up with 2-3 slip. Things that come to mind are worn bands, wor...

Re: Alternate Jack for Scorpio

You're in luck... I had inadvertently purchase a jack from Saul a while back. I say "inadvertently" because my brother, having looked over my car soon after I had purchased it indicated to me that I did not have a jack. Like an idiot I took his word for it. It is yours sir for $10 and the cost of sh...

Re: Uprated Front Springs

Brad, You might want to consider the aftermarket Jetta performance struts with the coil over springs. These would allow you to adjust ride height. If they are too low at the start you may be able to insert a spacer to gain some lift. I do not have any experience doing this, but it should work. Probl...

Re: Dual solenoid A4LD valve body???

I can't say that I suffer from the issues you mentioned. In fact I am amazed how tight the shifts are on my 88' with 85k miles. Records from PO show the front seal was changed under warranty at around 40K. I changed the fluid to Mobil 1ATF and added a bottle of LubeGuard at around 75k. I picked up a...

Re: Conversion from Clutch-based Mechanical Fan to Electric

I'm surprised nobody makes these in a form to upgrade older alternators and for racing applications https://aam-europe.contitech.de/pages/generatorfreilaeufe/generatorfreilaeufe_en.html They are pretty cool. Let's say you rev up through 5000rpm in first gear, when the trans shifts into second, the e...

Re: Conversion from Clutch-based Mechanical Fan to Electric

The diameter of the shaft is of little consequence. I only guessed the diameter from the front images of the hitachi unit found on the web because they don't list it in any of the dimensions that I have seen. Certainly it is not the case of..."Oh gee I can't find a pulley that works so I guess we ha...

Re: Conversion from Clutch-based Mechanical Fan to Electric

Not sure about the shaft diameter on the Bosch. As far as wiring goes, It looks like the 2005-07 alternators have the computer interface "C" S is sense. L is lamp. Large stud is the big wire to the battery. A ground strap can be connected to either of the two threaded holes on the back. The 2004 and...

Re: Conversion from Clutch-based Mechanical Fan to Electric

Yea, and only $499! Look, We are not looking for crazy power, just "adequate" power. The idea is an easy conversion to a modern alternator for the Scorpio on the cheap.. I did a little more research. Found some dimensions of the Pathfinder Alternator (and some for the stock Bosch unit) It looks like...
