Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

There are other 4 port heater control valves out there that would probably work on the Scorpio. For example, this unit for a 97 Aerostar... $8 from rockauto https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3934005&cc=1105209&jsn=626 You need to be careful. Some are "normally open" or "normally closed" so...

Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

OK - I think I get it (although I still would like to look at the manual or follow the hoses in the car) I think what you are saying is that the stock valve diverts both ends of the heater core. So in one state, the water circulates through the core. In the other state the water loops through the va...

Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

I'm always happy to see a modern and less expensive substitute, or even a self engineered solution. But I'm not sure about the simplification you speak of. I'll have to dig around the XR4ti area to see what you are talking about. Back in 2015 I recall Rock Auto blowing out Scorpio heater control val...

Re: Why are new cars so expensive?

That's just it, the overall supply of new/used vehicles is larger. But it is mostly made up of used vehicles (because they are lasting longer).

The new vehicles are a different case. There is less market share for the manufacturers to fight over.

Re: Why are new cars so expensive?

New cars are so expensive because vehicles are lasting longer and people are holding onto them longer. The result is a stratification of the entire market. Many dealers are making more money on the sale of refurbished second hand vehicles than on the sale of new vehicles. Nowhere is this more eviden...

Re: Upgraded fuel injectors

Here's a thought....

If the new injectors have better atomization, then maybe you could flip the phases of the injector banks so that they fire when the valves are open?

Maybe the injectors firing against the closed valve is why the Scorpio intake manifold gets so dirty all the time.

Re: Door ajar switches acting up.

I pulled the passenger door card on Saturday. After separating the foam from the door I took a peek inside. FWIW just use a pocket knife to cut the sealant that adheres the foam to the door. If you slice it down the middle it will stick back to itself later when you put it back. I was hoping the swi...

Re: Upgraded fuel injectors

Maybe that is it then - not scientific. "I replaced 30 year old injectors with whatever and it ran better." No doubt. Maybe its the case of "I don't know what I'm missing" but I don't recall Scorpios running rough and having poor throttle response when they were new. But I won't argue that injector ...

Re: Upgraded fuel injectors

Sorry, just had to revive this topic. I was thinking about this upgrade to the 4 hole Bosch injectors. I did a little research on this. It is a little interesting. There is a lot of debate online regarding the benefits of the newer injectors with multiple holes vs. the original single pintel style i...

Re: Door ajar switches acting up.

Problem is that they are goofy, non-typical, non off the shelf, type micro switches. I've got a whole jar full of micro switches that I have accumulated over the years and none of them look like that.' My gut feeling tells me it is one of two cases. Either some kind of sticky gooey build up that is ...

Re: Door ajar switches acting up.

Nope, my issue is the door ajar in the info display. So yes, I'm pulling door cards. Not a big deal I guess. While I'm in there I need to glue down the plastic strips that are on the bottom outside edge of the window glass. They make an irritating rattle. I did that a while ago on the driver's door,...

Re: Scorpio Front Hub Dia

If you are referring to the diameter of the strut tube that goes into the spindle, I believe that was discussed in the Project&Video forum under "Merkur front hubs with Volkswagen struts". I thought it was 51 mm for the Scorpio but I could be wrong. The Scorpio's is slightly bigger than the XR4ti's.

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade - Nissan/Infiniti

Nope - The first two photos are pre-2000 for sure, most likely 1999. The last photo is no later than 2003 and I would say most likely 2000. I only owned my first Scorpio from 1997-2003. The other white one in the last photo was not Saul's. I know Saul, even back then. This guy was from NJ or PA and ...

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade - Nissan/Infiniti

I think I went to two of the early Merkur gatherings. But the one in the photo was the first, not really sure of the year was that 99? Seemed like it was earlier...anyhow - it was epic. I can remember there was this promenade drive to the location where we could take the group photo. Seemed like the...

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade - Nissan/Infiniti

Bob - I'll try to make it in 2020. I do make it to Carlisle from time to time, but it is usually for the import show. Last time I made to the Ford show was when I went to one of the very early Merkur gatherings in the 90's...when this fuzzy and dated picture was taken.. My first white '8 Scorpio is ...
