Re: Toolots sale
This was an unbelievable good deal... https://www.toolots.com/ng-frontend/productDetail?id=41900&title=Cordless+Angle+Grinder+with+Free+20V+Li-ion+Battery+7500rpm I thought it would be garbage but for $15 I took a gamble. I can't believe how nice it is. Came with a 4amp/hr battery and charger an...

Toolots sale
No vested interest, but I got an email notification from this vendor. I had previously purchased machine tools and 3d printer filament from them. They are sort of like Harbor Freight, but also carry commercial stuff. Anyway they are having a big sale. https://www.toolots.com/ng-frontend/topic/Cleara...

Re: Sudden Intermittent High Idle
Just an FYI I was looking through EECIV Logic guide (circa 89') that I posted a while back. On page 419 in the FAILURE MODE MANAGEMENT section there was a table that I thought was interesting (see below) The way I read this table is as follows, for example, If ECT fails then the following happens......

Re: Sudden Intermittent High Idle
Don't know Ed. But when I had the A/C diode fail, and the inductive spike of the A/C clutch engaging reset the EECIV, it was very obvious that the EECIV decided to go into limp mode and raise the idle. No CEL light illuminated. Pull off to the side of the road, restart the car and idle back to norma...

Re: Sudden Intermittent High Idle
I'm still a firm believer that what you call "Sudden Intermittent High Idle" is simply the EECIV going into limp mode. Next time it happens Brad, and while the engine is idling high, pull over to the side of the road and turn off the engine, wait a moment and the restart. If the idle goes ...

Re: Sudden Intermittent High Idle
Idle RPM goes up when the IAC opens. Since putting the previous IAC back in the stalling issue has stopped. I'm pretty sure the "test IAC" was completely non-functional. IACs are pretty simple and I could never figure out why my old one went bad. If you are correct (and I believe you are)...

Re: Sudden Intermittent High Idle
You were right not to have much confidence in a 34 year-old part. I haven't had any high-idle symptoms - in fact, I was noticing that in general the car was idling at a lower RPM. All good, until my wife comes back and tells me that the engine stalled twice. Hmmmmm.... So I drive it yesterday and i...

Re: Dr. Jekyll... rough running 2.9
On the fuel pump replacement, the Service Manual states unequivocally a determined value for fuel pressure. Neither XR nor Scorpio SMs say a pressure range is acceptable. 30 year old fuel pumps shouldn't be assumed to be ruled out of consideration in trying to resolve a persistent engine performanc...

Re: Dr. Jekyll... rough running 2.9
I relate this experience to note how for FB MCA and/or MCA Forum members trying to help diagnose an engine issue from afar based only on symptoms can lead down paths that might not resolve the complaint. Agreed, but one can often make an assessment of what it NOT related to the problem. Thus avoidi...

Re: Dr. Jekyll... rough running 2.9
Joe, those original wires look like a corroded mess.
No wonder you are having troubles. Make sure the big wire and it's connections from the alternator to the battery is in good shape.

Like I said "something wrong with the alternator"...Ed Lijewski wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 5:00 pm Wouldn't a defective VRegulator also result in these symptoms?

Re: Effects of poor grounds?
That is strange. High current load causes engine to run bad. I'm going to say there is something wrong with the alternator. Blown diodes or something like that. Possibly a bad POSITIVE connection from alternator to battery. The reason I say that is your indication that turning on the rear defroster ...

Re: Dr. Jekyll... rough running 2.9
Re FP, let's see the reading now with new pump installed. Oh yea, lets see the pressure. Gotta see that. Hopefully Ed, it is just a psi or two above what it was before so you can proclaim "all was not in vain". Told you it wasn't the pump. I'd like Ed to measure the fuel pressure on his o...
