Re: 88 XR Build Thread - Rose

Keep working on it - you'll feel like you need to get more for it and then never sell it! I'm only just now noticing your very first post that shows the Cub Cadet tractor? Early 70's? We had a ~'66 102 that my Dad bought new. He offered it to me circa 2002 and I just let him trade it in. B...

Disappointed not to find the XRBrati mentioned. I guess the production number was too low.

Re: Sudden Intermittent High Idle

No real update. The problem hasn't reoccurred the couple times I've driven the car, and I haven't gotten any report from the wife on problems. I'm still suspicious of it being an intermittent wiring issue, but haven't gone hunting for same. The other thing I should check is the PCM itself for any fa...

Marine/Aviation Grade Wire Termination

Do you often use those cheap crimp-on terminals and think, "There must be a better way?" There is. It's not cheap, and can be crazy expensive for the best stuff, but you can do better without breaking the bank. https://marinehowto.com/marine-wire-termination/ Not a sponsor. Not a customer. Just a gr...

We're working with Ryan on migrating the Merkur Desktop to our server. So it's not dead, just sleeping for the moment. :)

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade - Nissan/Infiniti

If you were looking for this pulley "1-Groove machined pulley cut from cold rolled steel. For Hitachi type alternators, unit numbers LR150-711, LR160-723, LR160-723B, LR160-724, LR160-725, LR160-725C, LR160-727, LR170-757B, used on (2001-90) Honda, Isuzu, Nissan vehicles." then those alternators cr...

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade - Nissan/Infiniti

Yesterday looked like it was to be the coolest day over the next month, so I went junkyarding. Why wouldn't I? I found a 2003 Nissan 350Z that someone had already cut the nose off, revealing an easy-to-remove, rebuilt alternator. So I felt obligated to remove it. Ya know, cuz I need a spar...

Re: Replacement Head Options

The good news is that identifying which heads you have is as easy as popping off the covers and looking. Agree that it's not a panacea; it just buys a little more margin against failure should something go wrong. The reality is that when/if the time comes to replace the heads, you'd just want to mak...

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade

But I still think you may have to cut back the mounting boss on the Scorpio to get proper pulley alignment. I'm fine with that. Having an extra set of brackets and engine certainly helps with that process. I'm using the Bosch pulley. On the lathe I machined a recess so the nut could reach the threa...

Re: Alternate Alternator Upgrade

Well done! It'll be interesting to see if my 110A alternator case is any smaller and thus might need less persuasion to fit, and possibly no need for the after-market locator bracket. Time will tell.

So the pulley is the stock part, re-worked?
