Re: No adapter 300mm Front brakes

I'm gonna guess that the '08+ Focus caliper, being AL, is lighter than the Mondeo/Jag caliper which looks to be all-iron. Piston size is 57mm for both of them, so performance should be about the same. The Focus caliper is obviously going to have much better availability, especially here in the State...

I don't imagine anyone investigated this any further - yes, no, maybe??? It seem in the seem ballpark as using the Focus calipers.

At least your E-series is from after their use of the SBC brake system. I work on my neighbor's 2005 E350 and it's a nightmare.

Re: Housing on a Junkyard? The Fate of G.I. Auto Salvage

With 2018 upon us, I was wondering what was up with the GI property. Well, it looks like they were back to trying to get a housing project approved, but this time NON age-restricted. The variance was denied by the zoning board.... https://www.tapinto.net/towns/montville/articles/non-age-restricted-a...

Re: Discounted Advance Registration

Just registered now. You can too, but time is running out! Remember to select Merkur Club of America as your club designation. And don't forget to select the proper registration class. Merkurs are classes 641 - 651. Don't sweat it if you're not sure which car you're bringing. It can be changed upon ...

He's not talking about the Axle nut. 200 ft/lbs on the bearing retainer bolts might very well shear them off!

Re: T-9 removal

You'll also want to drop the anti-sway bar to provide some much-needed clearance. Just bear in mind, there's a decent chance you'll rip the anti-sway bar bolt threads out of the body when removing them. That'll present a good opportunity to fix those. :)

Re: Fan switch size

I'm pretty sure the bung for the fan switch in the lower intake is 1/2" NPT. It is exclusive to the XR4Ti manifold, and the switch is not terribly common as most are 3/8" NPT or, as noted above, something metric. FWIW, I seem to recall that the Tempo also used a 1/2" NPT fan switch of roughly the sa...

How do you retorque after driving? My socket wouldn't even *almost* fit with the strut in place... do you take everything apart again?
I was referring more to the rears when I said that ...as well as my Audi, which has an axle bolt to torque to a ridiculous value at all four corners.

I am what most people would call a "large man".
In that case, you certainly won't want to use the stock XR track assembly. You'll want to remove the four mounting feet from the tracks and then throw the rest away. Then you'll want to figure out how to use those four feet with the Focus tracks.

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

whenever I do mine they are really tight but drive the car a couple miles and they loosen up. ^^^ :withstupid I also like to re-torque after a few miles have been put on the new bearings. Consistent with what you're experiencing, unloaded, I've found that worn out bearings spin easier than new ones.

Re: The Watch

Too funny. Is it an American company? Reason I ask is that when I checked several years back Ford had simply let their trademark ownership of "Merkur" lapse. At that point anyone could pick it up and own it. It wasn't that expensive - we considered having MCA be the owner.
