Re: Parasitic Battery Drain

brokencase wrote: Sat Sep 18, 2021 3:55 pm So Brad... I say go ahead and put a current meter in place and start pulling fuses to see what is up.
I've never measured current with a multimeter before. I just watched a couple videos - not as simple as voltage, but not rocket science.

Re: Parasitic Battery Drain

Brad should do an informal test by fully charging his Scorp's battery, then not using the car for days while periodically checking voltage at the battery, not the cigarette lighter. I think that battery will take longer to reach the discharge state he's noticed recently, and seem normal. I've done ...

Parasitic Battery Drain

Over the years I've read accounts of people saying that the Scorpio goes through batteries pretty quickly. That's a problem on a stock-configuration XR4Ti too, but there you can point the blame at the location of the battery right over the red-hot turbo. Obviously we don't have that issue on the Sco...

Re: Replacement for factory Mini-spare tire (AKA Donut)

I found a newer car in the Pull-A-Part that had the same size spare and had it mounted on the original rim. Years ago I did the same, using a spare tire from a Saab 900 I believe. Then I installed bigger brakes, which didn't clear the factory spare wheel. By then, word on the street was that some o...

Re: High Idle - IAC Valve

I have a feeling that the '88 Scorpios are susceptible to the very high idle failure mode and the '89 Scorpios may not. My experiences were with my '88, and I've not yet had one with my '89. IIRC Brad's is an '88, yours is an '89. I prefer to call it a 1987 Scorpio, as that's what it was everywhere...

Re: Replacement for factory Mini-spare tire (AKA Donut)

So what you could do is replace the 125/90R16 tire on the Mercedes wheel with a 115/70R16 tire. I did a quick study and found several modern vehicles that could donate the requisite spare tire (only) which could then be mounted onto the Mercedes rim... 1999 - 2008 Saab 9-5 Some time since I last po...

Re: High Idle - IAC Valve

There's nothing really wrong with the computer hardware or software it is just a very primitive piece. That is why so many people say you are better off with the LA series from a thunderbird. Agreed, and then I took it a step further and used a MAF computer from the early 90's - currently I'm runni...

Thanks very much for sharing. Working on getting it uploaded. Should I give your Dad credit for supplying it, or would he/you prefer anonymity?

Re: High Idle - IAC Valve

In a nutshell...the EECIV has a default limp home strategy for every single sensor failure. Many of these involve setting a higher than normal idle. Good info. I guess I'd been thinking there was one overall "limp home strategy", where in fact there may be several depending on the particu...

Re: High Idle - IAC Valve

Plain and simple Ed. The vehicles did not exhibit this behavior off the showroom floor. So it is not some innate problem with the programming of the EECIV. I agree that this was not a problem when the cars were new. What I think is/has happened is that as the cars age, things change (resistance, et...

As far as connections this is what I apply to every connector I pull apart on any car: https://www.specialized.net/cp8-tb-thomas-betts-kopr-shield-compound-8-oz.html Stuff is magical and a container will last your lifetime. I wonder if KOPR-KOTE is a less expensive version of KOPR-SHIELD? Found thi...

Re: High Idle - IAC Valve

Sounds like the EEC-IV detected a problem and went into "limp mode" to me... I don't think that's what is going on. When I've experienced this issue - many times with the 2.3T and twice with the Scorpio 2.9 - the engine ran fine otherwise and was in closed-loop. Over the years LOTS of peo...

Re: Glovebox re-installation challenges

Figured out the problem yesterday. First, I came to realize that the short arm on a spring-loaded swivel was engaging too high on the back panel when you went to close the door. It was basically missing the spot it is supposed to slide into and getting caught on a ledge instead. Studying more, I rea...

Re: Glovebox re-installation challenges

Scorpios have one of the more convoluted glovebox designs that I've seen. I think I said pretty much exactly that yesterday. I even went and grabbed the FSM, only to find no reference at all regarding the glovebox. Closest I could get was a picture of it in the section that referenced the lower das...
