Wow, that's crazy. So there was one from '94 - '97 and then the one you have was '98 only!?

Re: Restoration of Merkur Scorpio in Russia

The rear beam is from a 1998 Scorpio. It has a wider track, which is why the stock wheels are no longer recessed inward, it looks better. and an even thicker anti-roll bar. 20 mm instead of 16 I was not aware that the Scorpio Mk2 ('94 - '98) had received a new rear beam. As you suggest, that totall...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

For grins, I swapped in the '91 Explorer 5-speed PCM. I didn't notice any change. Pulled codes - surprisingly this one is older 2-digit codes - I got... 57 Intermittent in Park/Neutral/ Switch or Neutral Pressure switch circuit – PNP or Transmissions 95 (O) Fuel pump: open, bad ground or always on ...

Re: Restoration of Merkur Scorpio in Russia

Thanks for documenting this. Any idea how a Merkur Scorpio ended up in Russia? A 5-speed, no less! But what transmission is that? A MT-75? That must have gotten swapped in at some point as all the manual trans Merkurs were T-9. I've never seen that rear beam with the loop bracket for the dif...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Just back from a ~20 mile highway run. Runs great! No evidence of pinging, so 13' base timing will stay as-is. NSS works just the same as it did before. Fuel computer even works! You were right Dean! Completely undocumented, but the output on the Explorer PCM is there on pin 34, and it's generic eno...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

It runs! Just back from the inaugural trip around the neighborhood. Speedo/odo work fine, so no issues there. Currently running the '91 4L OHV Explorer 5-speed PCM, if only because that was the last one I had in there. I'll try the Ranger one at some point for comparison. Checked the timing (spout o...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Good progress today. Got the trigger wheel off by sticking the whole thing in the freezer and then applying magnetic heat induction "rope" around the trigger wheel. It came off pretty easy at that point using a cold chisel. Figured I'd take some measurements just in case it's ever needed. ...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Got this pic from Chuck. You can see pretty clearly here that it's 90 degrees. I'm pretty sure he set the 36-1 wheel at TDC and then realized mounting the pickup at 60 degrees wasn't an option. It would have need to set right about at the block/pan seam. With Megasquirt, 90 degrees isn't a problem -...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Just confirmed that the missing tooth is indeed located at TDC. I'm thinking the crank pick-up is probably located 90 degrees ATDC when the factory setup wants it at 60. I won't be able to move the sensor 30 degrees, but I could try to move the toothed ring.

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Do you have a means to ascertain what the static ignition timing is (with respect to cyl 1 TDC)? You have to really think about TDC cyl1 and phasing of your gear on the crank. Don't assume the other guy did everything right. Dean, you should have put this ^^^ in BOLD I think I just figured it out! ...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Seems like you should do something with pin 8. I could not find it in the Scorpio EVTM. It was a late addition to EEC-IV, so the Scorpio doesn't have it. The '94 Ranger 2.3 PCM I run on the Brat has it and I've run with nothing hooked up to it for years - no issues. If you don't have a timing mark ...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

So much for the easy fix... I swapped in three new ignition leads on the 4-5-6 side. I'm showing spark now on all three, but it's still running rough; possibly a little better, but not enough of a change to really be consequential. I'm not quite sure what was going on there with the other wires - th...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Real-time update - some trouble-shooting progress.... First, I tried swapping in an alternate EDIS-6 module. No change. Got the timing light out - hooked it up to ignition lead 1 and checked the timing. I don't have a definitive timing mark - had to remove it when I installed the crank pick-up brack...
