Re: Duratec / Mazda L-Series MZR I4 2.0 / 2.3 / 2.5 Swap

I didn't realize until recently that the MZR crank is not keyed, like what we're used to on "old fashioned engines". It would seem it was just a way to take some cost out of the engine, but it adds some time and effort for those of us who would work on them. Fortunately, the timing process...

Re: Volvo S40 Electric Power Steering Swap

Those GPS controllers look interesting Brad. Probably the easiest to implement. Look back in this thread at the comments from "Nmstec". He was very much against the GPS controllers. Yes, he has a product to sell, so he has a bias. But I suspect he could and would have developed a solution...

Re: Volvo S40 Electric Power Steering Swap

I would go with one of the can bus controllers currently available. https://www.ebay.com/str/steeringelectronics Okay, I think you've talked me out of trying my $10 Temu PWM. Hey, it's not like I have immediate plans to use the Volvo pump any way. I just wish I knew about it sooner, before I did Sa...

Re: Fitting Volvo S60 Seats

I find that a die grinder with a cutting disc makes short work of anything that is in my way. Right about the time you were typing this yesterday I was making sparks with my 5" angle grinder, cutting off the nuisance metal. It's pretty thick -maybe 3/16" - which is why I didn't bother at ...

Re: Harvesting Seat Track Feet for Alternate Seats

Thought it was worth adding this pic to this thread. This is for a Scorpio, but it's nearly the same for an XR. This shows the stripped-down harvested seat rails (passenger side) with mounting feet installed in parts car for mock-up. I've done this before in the XR with just the feet, but this shoul...

Re: Fitting Volvo S60 Seats

Harvested seat rails (passenger side) with mounting feet installed in parts car for mock-up. I've done this before in the XR with just the feet, but this should be a little easier to work with since the front/back spacing is already set. The annoying part is that the inner rail has a tracking-rail s...

Re: Fitting Volvo S60 Seats

Electrical done enough for now. The driver side seat uses pretty much that same removable plastic panel but without the square hole in it. I'll grab an extra one of those at some point to use on the passenger side so that the circuit board of the PWM isn't exposed. 20240706_161259.jpg Onto the adapt...

Re: Fitting Volvo S60 Seats

It is fine to extend the wires to the potentiometer. You should be able to easily mount it in one of the center console unpopulated spots. Need to find a suitable knob. It actually came with a knob, I just hadn't bothered to attach it during testing. If I more cleanly mounted it, it would be somewh...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI to EDIS Conversion

I test fit the "new" Mustang TB and adapter on the operational 2.9. The engine actually ran pretty good with this, still using the stock Scorpio PCM. The only problem was the TPS, as I think the Scorpio and Mustang/Ranger have different TPS transfer curves; as a result, idle was very errat...

Re: Volvo S40 Electric Power Steering Swap

Bumping this thread as I picked up another Volvo pump several weeks back from a C30. And then when I needed to meet the minimum order size from Temu, I ordered one of these... https://www.temu.com/60a-0-100-adjustable-speed-controller-for-diy-dc-motor-led-digital-display-pwm-dc-10v-55v-adjustment-g-...

Re: Saginaw Power Steering Pump Conversion

The volvo pump swap has come along way with the new standalone controllers. Probably why a couple weeks back why I couldnt find a single one in the yard. There's a small yard near me that had an untouched 2008 Volvo C30. Long story short, I now have TWO electric Volvo power steering pumps! And the ...

Re: Fitting Volvo S60 Seats

Using the $3.50 20A PWM regulator the seat heaters work perfectly. Thanks Dean! :cheers Even when turned all the way up for several minutes the wires did not get at all hot, unlike when I simply applied 12V to the heater pad. I'm not sure why that's the case, but I'm not arguing with good results. R...

Re: Scorpio seats on XR rails?

The car already has the Scorpio seats installed. What do you mean by early Scorpio seats? How could I tell if I have early or later style seats? I do want to make a hybrid setup. The early Scorpios, built through July 1987, had somewhat different seats that were "half-manual" in operation...

Re: Scorpio seats on XR rails?

The mounting locations between the XR and Scorpio are almost identical. Using Scorpio seats in a XR I just needed a ~3/8" thick spacer for one of the forward mounts I believe (it's been many years since I did this). So really, there's no need to swap the rails if you just want to put Scorpio se...

Re: XR Chassis mods

I got a notification that this post was updated, how amazing is that? Evidently the car has been sold more than once since I sold it. Looks like all the new owners have done is change the seat and add an oil accumulator. Good to hear from you Gene. Yes, your car has been bought and sold a couple ti...
