Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Yes, the speedo signal comes from the Vss. Not an issue. Ergo cruise control and fuel computer. I don't care about cruise control - I'm going to pull that stuff all out regardless. While not required, it would be nice if I didn't lose the fuel computer. I see that there's a direct VSS input at pin ...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Just had a good conversion with Hal Clarke. When he did the 4L swap into Noel's Scorpio years ago, he had no issues with the speedometer and he used the 4.0 Aerostar PCM. Together we figured out that the VSS signal goes directly to the speedo head, and perhaps then on to the PCM as an INput. This is...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Continuing on, just did a full pin-by-pin comparison of the Ranger PCM vs. the Scorpio. Here's where there are differences. I think the speedo is going to be the tough one, unless the VSS output just gets passed through as-is? Thinking some more, the Ranger still used a physical speedo cable in 1994...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

After looking through your links it seems that the IDM signal is suitable for tach input, if it is absent then tach would not operate and that would be a diagnostic indicating that something is wrong. I was only suggesting that the input would be absent at pin 4 of the (new Ranger) PCM. Keep in min...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Trying to figure out the IDM circuit - sometimes called EDM in the EDIS world. With TFI and DIS, the tach output is NOT sent back to the PCM. With EDIS, it is - pin 4 on the PCM. (see below) But is it required? What happens if that signal is absent? I believe on the native EDIS vehicles, the tach ge...

Wiring from EDIS-6 Module with clipped off 12-wire harness pig-tail: EDIS Module Pin 1 PIP (Gray/O) splice into Circuit 6 TFI harness (as original, Pin 56 PCM - PIP) Pin 2 EDM (Tan/Y) splice into Circuit 2 TFI harness (Future upgrade? - Pin 4 on PCM) Pin 3 SAW (Pink) splice into Circuit 5 TFI harnes...

Re: Sun Valley Performance XR4Ti for sale

They don't seem like Celica seats. I thought they were black generic racing seats. Like from Pep Boys. Maybe they got changed out? Sitting in a different XR with stock seats just felt right. Like I was now in a rally car instead of a delivery van. It wasn't that they were uncomfortable, more that t...

Re: Making the Cologne 2.9 Distributor-less using 4L OHV parts - TFI/SD to EDIS/MAF Conversion

Still slowly chipping away at this as time permits. Using an Ohm meter, confirmed that the original ACT and Ranger IAT have the same transfer curve, so no need to swap the Ranger IAT in. On the Ranger, the IAT is installed in the airbox, so temps would vary a little from the Scorpio's ACT in the int...

Re: Sun Valley Performance XR4Ti for sale

Hopefully this car will be on the road soon. Holy thread bump! I remember this car. The owner who did a lot of the work when it was in AZ had a small side-business selling some of the parts he used on the build - wheel spacers, coolant pipes, etc. Is it only the styling of the 2000-2005 Toyota Celi...

Re: Duratec / Mazda L-Series MZR I4 2.0 / 2.3 / 2.5 Swap

I didn't realize until recently that the MZR crank is not keyed, like what we're used to on "old fashioned engines". It would seem it was just a way to take some cost out of the engine, but it adds some time and effort for those of us who would work on them. Fortunately, the timing process...

Re: Volvo S40 Electric Power Steering Swap

Those GPS controllers look interesting Brad. Probably the easiest to implement. Look back in this thread at the comments from "Nmstec". He was very much against the GPS controllers. Yes, he has a product to sell, so he has a bias. But I suspect he could and would have developed a solution...

Re: Volvo S40 Electric Power Steering Swap

I would go with one of the can bus controllers currently available. https://www.ebay.com/str/steeringelectronics Okay, I think you've talked me out of trying my $10 Temu PWM. Hey, it's not like I have immediate plans to use the Volvo pump any way. I just wish I knew about it sooner, before I did Sa...

Re: Fitting Volvo S60 Seats

I find that a die grinder with a cutting disc makes short work of anything that is in my way. Right about the time you were typing this yesterday I was making sparks with my 5" angle grinder, cutting off the nuisance metal. It's pretty thick -maybe 3/16" - which is why I didn't bother at ...

Re: Harvesting Seat Track Feet for Alternate Seats

Thought it was worth adding this pic to this thread. This is for a Scorpio, but it's nearly the same for an XR. This shows the stripped-down harvested seat rails (passenger side) with mounting feet installed in parts car for mock-up. I've done this before in the XR with just the feet, but this shoul...

Re: Fitting Volvo S60 Seats

Harvested seat rails (passenger side) with mounting feet installed in parts car for mock-up. I've done this before in the XR with just the feet, but this should be a little easier to work with since the front/back spacing is already set. The annoying part is that the inner rail has a tracking-rail s...
