Re: Just got a '86 Merkur

I can't say with 100% confidence, but I am pretty sure since you are talking about what I am also planning, somewhat. Stock starter, meaning stock XR starter? I'd say no, but I'm surprised you're running that still anyway, go with a 92/93 Mustang PMGR starter. It weighs half and is much smaller than...

Re: Reintroductions

Most of you already know me from the MCOA Facebook group, but Facebook decided I am not worthy of their platform for reasons undisclosed so I am no longer able to post there. My name is Jereme, and I own a 1988 Merkur XR4Ti that was probably best known as "Scarlett." Good to see your name...

Re: WTB: damaged/cracked E3 or E6 manifold

Are you using the E6 though, or are you going with a Gnari? I've got E6's with cracks if you really want to get one, but I would suggest to mock up your setup with the parts that you'll actually be using. There may be some differences between the two that will throw you off. I am just outside of Det...

toffeepeanuts wrote: Sat Oct 09, 2021 3:40 pm Yeah, it looks fairly decent for a 30 year old engine with ~120k miles. I noticed the valves on #3 and 4 were lighter colored than #1 and 2 (which had the break in the HG). Not sure what thats about.
Coolant steam cleaning the valves...

Apologies for my crappy attempt to edit the quote. :)

If it will start and run, then yes it will push start and run.

Re: WTB: Radiator grille\Merkur Scorpio

Do you have a photo of the part you are trying to locate?
Is it the small plastic part that is usually body color which mounts between headlights?

Re: Fuel pump, or pumps, or....

I fully agree with the essence of your response to Johnny re fascism. Pointing out that some (too many; even one is too many) judges are elected isn't picking. Indeed sheriffs are different from police; but why they elected makes no sense to me. Where I live at voting time I have a heck of a time j...

Re: End of the rope with my '88

So, an update. I'm an idiot and could have saved myself a lot of time, headache, and heartache by just doing a compression test at the very start. Anyways, it was running poorly because it has 0 compression on cylinders 1 & 2. Pulled the head today, surprise surprise. So yeah, that'll do it. Th...

Re: Exhaust manifold damage

Also just my opinion… The gnari manifold is a much better option that buying another one of the same which you have on the car, there are tons of them out there, and they get passed around like candy, reports I have seen is that they last about a week give or take. Mentioned above by Andy to not ge...

Re: Exhaust manifold damage

My personal opinion, I would go with the Gnari with the external gate flange.
You'll need a new WG, and have to modify your exhaust to work once you change the turbo location.

The turbo there is not the factory unit rebuilt to different specification, it is a complete different unit.

Correct, you need the Moates chip burner deal to do that.

Re: Exhaust manifold damage

I had a Tweecer in maybe 1999 for my Mustang, I think it was around $350. It went on the port you mentioned that had the do not remove sticker over it, then just slid into the plug there. If you had the chip burner deal, you could burn your calibration and then stick it on the port in place to the d...
