Re: Original owner since '86 planning updates...

Hi all, I think the issue is the bulbs are burned out in the clock. I can't tell if it is working or not without being lit. I am wondering if these Osram small bulbs are out there for sale somewhere? Anyone? MILESTONE: I took the car to an inspection station yesterday and it passed! I am planning to...

Re: have to play with throttle to keep it running

Hi all, Have you checked the idle air control valve or the pigtail for it. My pigtail gets loose and it dies immediately when expected to idle. It runs fine when under throttle, just won't idle. I used a zip tie or a rubber band as times to keep it in place. I have a new pigtail but have not install...

Re: Working on window lift motor

Hi all, This weekend will be another work session for the Merk and I plan to have it ready for inspection after this. It would be great to have more info on the window motor removal but I guess no one currently in here has done this repair job. One of the other sites has a mention of Torx head screw...

Re: It's starting!

When mine was about three months old I went to Las Vegas from Dallas to the CES electronics show. The clear coat on these cars was very soft as new and it was easy to scratch. I went through a brush wash car wash prior to arriving at my hotel. The car had tiny little scratch marks all over the finis...

Re: Original owner since '86 planning updates...

Hi all, As a follow on to other comments I am wondering if anyone has tried LED conversion kits for the 9004 bulbs? I changed to high output 9004 bulbs and am quite disappointed in the beam and pattern of the stock style bulbs. I have an SVT Focus with HID lights and it has both driving and fog lamp...

Re: Working on window lift motor

Hi all, Mine swapped fluid from the radiator to the oil the first time @ ~48,000 miles, again at about 65,000 miles and again at about 166,000 miles. At the last time around I talked with the transmission shop guy and demanded a large external cooler and no further use of the idiot design radiator t...

That is a more positive story than my buying an auto transmission version to please a girlfriend... Former girlfriend, now, of course.

Re: Working on window lift motor

Hi all, I bought mine in October '86 in Dallas. I seem to remember paying $18,600 for it. Have you ever seen the original sales marketing material for the XR4Ti? I read it at the dealership. They planned to show it to people who looked at a Lincoln and did not buy one, like a second choice. So lame....

Re: Working on window lift motor

Hi all, I do agree about your idea of hardening grease but the video I watched with the Bosch motor in a Ferrari made me wonder as they only cleaned all the old grease out and re-lubed it and it went from bad to good. It was flaking like plastic is how they described it. My driver side is fine but t...

Re: Working on window lift motor

Oh, I push the switch and the lights dim as it offers load to the motor. I am sure it works.

Re: Working on window lift motor

hi all,

I used a meter on the switch, it works fine... I saw on a Ferrari site where they had the same motor and it was fine after they opened it and cleaned out the old hard grease.

So, my plan is the same.

Cheers

Re: Working on window lift motor

Hi all, I tried rolling the pot on the lights and the wipers both. I have electronic spray cleaner I will try next. Dim, very dim, dash lights in the instruments and no intermittent wipers at this time are what I have. All the rear bulbs looked much brighter after I changed them out and the high mou...

Re: Working on window lift motor

Thanks for the reply. I will try that next on the front side light. I need the front side marker light to be working as all the other exterior bulbs work now. I fixed the rear high mount brake light by cleaning all the rear bulb contacts and changing the bulbs, swapped in new bulbs in backup, turn a...

Working on window lift motor

Hi all, I have been reading the XR shop manual today about the window lift motor removal. I note the template drawing they use to show where to drill 3/4" holes to remove the lift motor. The template has no dimensions mentioned it seems. Was that a Ford special tool for dealers only? I have the door...

Re: XR4Ti Coolant Recovery Bottle always full

Hi all,

I tried the clear JB WELD but it failed. I have the premixed black stuff that you knead for a bit before installing to try next. The bottle is polyethylene, I think, and does not like to have anything stick to it.

Cheers
