Re: Did 1989 XR4TI solve the previous dash and head issues?

88/89 heads do have a different casting #, so there must be "some" improvement made by Ford if they went through the trouble. If the car is stock the C3 and T9 are OK...but any big power improvements are going to require something a little stronger. If you're doing an automatic behind the 2.3T then...

Re: Did 1989 XR4TI solve the previous dash and head issues?

Dashes were definitely better, a big problem was the old center-mount speaker. That said, Father Time and the Sun will eventually warp and crack any dash, as my warped and cracked '89 dash will attest to...and it's been garaged and parked under covered parking at work as least as long as I've had it...

Thoroughly clean the engine, then see where the oil drips from first.

Re: Post-Carlisle Survey - Your Input is Needed!!!

Thank you, understood. There are no events here in Arizona that I know of, nor enough Merkur peeps here to justify it, but if such an effort could be put forth, again, say in SoCal, or possibly in the PNW where I have kids and frequently find myself (going to Portland/Seattle in less than a month), ...

Re: Post-Carlisle Survey - Your Input is Needed!!!

1. Did not attend. Too far, expense; not generally a good date for me and my family. 2. N/A 3. Don't remember where we stayed in '04 and '05, but that was nice-- offered in re other comments here on the current venue. 4. N/A 5. I wish I knew; haven't seen it, either. 6. The only way I could particip...

Re: Sierra Camber plates or others on a xr4ti?

Slotting the cross member holes would be cheaper but having to adjust/pull them in might be problematic and a pain to be adjusting if your messing with your suspension setup frequently. I think having the adjustability on the top will be easier in the long. Adjustability is definitely not this meth...

Re: Bob's Log, Bearing Carrier, Headlight Seals, Rack Bushings, AOS, Harnesses

Bob had several options: stock location, center location, EGR/no EGR fitting, ceramic coatings, etc. Might help to know which one this is. Thanks.

Re: Sierra Camber plates or others on a xr4ti?

Another way to adjust camber is to horizontally slot the holes for the inner TCA mounting points. This was done by a previous owner on my '89; what they did is spot weld the big washers they used to the crossmember at the new location, so they could re-adjust camber after installing some Intrax lowe...

Re: Saginaw Power Steering Pump Conversion

Haha. LubeGard power steering additive is only ~$7.00. As the kids all say these days, "Right??!!" These pumps are ubiquitous, and cheap as chips. When the thing wears out, swap another one in there, and off you go. :dunno I admire all the work you've done on this, Brad, especially the exquisite do...

Re: Information

Hello Lee, I would start with some pictures of what you have, so we have an idea of what we're dealing with. I kind of doubt anyone would want the whole vehicle (but they might), so it seems to me a part-out is in order until someone comes to haul the rest of the shell to the recycler. See this post...

Re: Always fight photo ticket

The best way to fight this rot is to ignore the tickets. They have to send a process server, because tickets sent in the mail do not constitute legal service. If they succeed in doing that (and they have learned that there are enough suckers who mail in the fines for them not to bother), then fight ...

Re: Won't idle after a short drive

Re-pinned LA3 shouldn't pose any wiring changes when going back to a PF3/Small VAM. The only thing that changes is static timing, which goes from 10* BTDC to 13* BTDC, SPOUT disconnected. Have you done that, and checked all your other settings (TPS, cam)?
