Now the 914 is much older, but also much simpler, so the maintenance burden is lessened. And they do have their charms. But certainly for us, the lack of power would be a huge bummer. You'd have to do a six conversion, or a V8 conversion (yes, I know there's a guy on TF who has done a 2.3T conversi...

It's really quite common. You'll find several on MCA who've done it, but I know of a number who aren't on MCA who have done it as well. No one who has says, or admits, that the filter gets crappy from road goo or slush/salt, but it stands to reason that anything you leave in place or add as a baffle...

[quote This is off topic, oh never mind.....[/quote]

Not to worry, while the topic of this thread is exhaust, most posts no matter the topic have a lot of that, too

Also, in theory that sheet-metal enclosure is supposed to isolate the intake from the engine compartment when the hood is closed (hard to see also because it's black). It gets SOOO hot under the hood of the XR that i would think that the sheet-metal inclosure would just get hot after a little bit. ...

Good stuff.

Now, does anyone have a dyno chart showing torque curve (personally, I don't care much about max HP) before/after installing a larger exhaust system? :?:

Well, I can't figure how that's a cold air intake since from the pic I'm assuming it's a hot air intake (sucking engine compartment air). I sure suspect that what looks like a protective wire screen on the outside of the mushroom covering the filter media could be restrictive at upper rpms (actual r...

A less restrictive exhaust will allow the turbo to spool up faster, and make boost at lower rpm's. That's what we want to do: get on boost ASAP. Before we have boost, we have a Pinto-- one that weighs about 50% more at that. Proposed experiment: On your car (unfortunately recently relieved of certa...

And I bet some of you know where I got this info, watching Horse Power TV Sunday. :D That was a pretty bad-ass engine, huh - it's the kind of powerplant that makes you giggle like a school girl when they lift the hood  Another disadvantage of the SC is that when you're trying to make serious b...

For a muffler alternative, try SuperTrapp. Dr. Keith (DeLaHoussaye) on IMON has been running dual Trapps for some time after trying some other mufflers and prefers them for all reasons. On exhaust diameters, I'm a holdout on the 3"er because I also think the HP increase the 2.5 " or 3" provide is re...

Re: Backfires

I don't know exactly what the sensor does, but you have to replace the entire distributor to replace that part. Phil D opmd.com It's called the Profile Ignition Pick-Up [PIP]--its signal goes to the ECU and then to the TFI to fire the coil; you can think of the PIP doing what a crankshaft angle sen...
