Re: No adapter Big Brakes

The OP was using the 08-11 brakes, which are 275mm with AL caliper. The 05-07 and all the 2012+ base models use a 278mm rotor with steel caliper. Tim- Did you ever compare the weight of the '08 caliper vs. the 2012? I wonder if there were any reliability issues with the '08 caliper given that they ...

Re: No adapter Big Brakes

Did anyone ever try this in the real world? A few guys are running very similar setups. Piston sizing is 57mm and the stock Focus has a master cylinder the same size as the early XR (85-86 or so). The OP was using the 08-11 brakes, which are 275mm with AL caliper. The 05-07 and all the 2012+ base m...

Re: Rear disc brake kit 11" NEW DESIGN

I'm interested in the escape set up. I'm running 18s so clearance should not be an issue. are there any of those brackets left and if so what was the rotors needed for that? Not on here as much as I used to be, but finally making some head way. I'll use this as a little update as well. Brackets are...

Re: 909 Strut Top Fitment

i dont think he means you have to go back to he OEM bushes. But if they are like the Gofrey C/C adjusters, the struts mount directly to a pillow ball bearing. Dont think 909 stuff is meant to work with stock unless there is a special 909 bushing for it too. 909 upper strut bearing housings ONLY wor...

If there's any rust on the bearing surfaces or rollers, just chuck them.

Re: 909 Strut Top Fitment

They should work...it's 12mm for those and the spacers look correct. The mounting for the XR is identical for the Sierras. What bushing do you plan to use? You cannot use a powerflex strut top bushing as the inner shape does not match the 909 stuff. JohnV makes his more for his coilovers which use a...

Re: Focus Brake Mounting

I have more "kits" currently, but I also updated the hose with a 45 degree swivel fitting, so the hoses are $5 more expensive to compensate for the increased cost of the fitting. Total is $105 shipped for the spacers, thread adapters, bolts, and hoses.

Re: Focus Brake Mounting

Sorry, not on here as much as I used to. This "kit" will NOT work with the Contour SVT rotors due to the height of the friction surface. On the Contour, the rotor vents to the outside, which takes away ~1/4" of the area from the bottom of where the pad engages. So the pad will "overhang" the inside ...

Re: Original owner since '86 planning updates...

Brake upgrades can depend on wheel size. If keeping the stock 14" or even 15" "Spatula" wheels, I would recommend the MerkurDepot rear kit. Front I would leave stock to match. If going with 15" and not the Spatula, I have a setup to utilize the 2012+ Focus brakes on essentially all 4 corners (11" ro...

Re: Rear disc brake kit 11" NEW DESIGN

Is it the same on both sides, left and right, inside and outside of each rotor? The pad engagement should be pretty much from one edge of the machined portion of the rotor to the other edge. I had ~1mm of play total to get it aligned correctly, height wise. So it should be making contact along the e...

Any news on the hoses?
Not yet. I got the quote over a week ago and I told them to go ahead with the order. Messaged them today and they should be quoting some front hoses as well. No reply yet. They were pretty good the last order. Chassis fitting is the problem generally.

...I had to shave my own flats in the brake line body connector to get it to pass through the "D" hole... I'm confused by this as I tested it on my own chassis. They all had the flat portion on them. Unfortunately I was unable to see your picture. Are you a registered member? If not, then you must ...
