Re: Anyone in the San Francisco area?

EVERYBODY in the state HATES the "Smog-Nazis"....I also hear horror stories about "importing" a car from anywhere else...Fees, charges, tests, more money, headaches, money....should talk to somebody who has done it. Also an apartment roughly 4 times the size of a telephone booth will cost ONE MILLIO...

Re: Suspension upgrades?

Everything I'm finding drops the car, I don't really want to do that. If anything I'm looking for more of a stiffer spring at either stock height, or a wee bit higher. More of a rally stance. Any suggestions? Whats the price range you're thinking? Very good suspension is available....inverted 40mm ...

And note when you see MkIII its said "Mark three"...Please don't continue the destruction of the language by saying " I done see'd a Em Kay Eye Eye Eye Mare-kooor".. Just slit their throats when they say that...a couple of seconds and the world will be safe. And if you encounter Audi fans, do the wo...

No panic.
just replace lifter.
Set lobes at TDC for that cylinder and use a open end wrench to kinda lift/poke the rocker out, replace lifter, kinda lift poke rocker back in place.
Easy peasy.

Re: Need coilover Rebuild AVO

Same story with all the British shocks..I had some Leda that got sent to some lemons roadracer guys. They needed a freshen up..
Send them back ---and spend more on postage than new Bilsteins..

nother reason I stick with Bilstein---aside from being able to specify the valving I want.

Re: New Merkur Owner - SE Michigan

For the OP-should he be interested-I'd dig up my receipt from my civil, local professional machine shop for Magnafluxing or maybe just magnetizing with the required powder, whatever, two 2.3 heads, separately. $25 each. It's unworthy of my time to do it and face it towards the Lair(d) of Vinegarish...

Re: New Merkur Owner - SE Michigan

the car has been sitting for a few so i assumed I would need new fluids all around . Should there be a crack in the head coolant may have mixed with oil = not good for bearings, the first reason for making sure to change it on doing the head gasket R&R. (Except in Seattle...). I've had 3 junk yard ...

Re: Has anyone here re-drilled hubs for 4x100, or 4x114.3?

I have a nice set of 17x7" wheels. They are 4x100mm or 4x114.3 universal. Has anyone had any luck drilling and pressing new studs into their hubs? I would think you options for wheels and brakes would double with a More common pattern... Thoughts? When redrilled the studs are too close to the edge ...

Re: New Merkur Owner - SE Michigan

You can't be sure the head hasn't 'cracked so consider having it Magnafluxed at a machine shop (not expensive). Replace ALL coolant. Install new timing belt/pulley. Easier to install new plugs and T-stat and V-belts then. Disconnect exhaust manifold from head with turbo/downpipe still attached. Usi...

Hey John, I know I've asked this before, but what is the cost of one of these turn key cossie motors? Will it be capable of passing smog for those that still get away with a non-stock motor as long as it passes gas? You already touched on this, but I bought my cossie arches(fakes so only $150.00) c...
