Forum update coming soon

Just an FYI, I plan to update the forum software sometime this weekend, possibly tonight. The forum will be down for around four hours or so if everything goes as expected.

In my last email to the seller I asked about the phone number. No reply yet, but see update in first post regarding actual mileage.

Re: 1986 Xr4Ti, 27K mi, located in Maine

I did get some additional information from the seller. The car is in Norway, Maine. Asking price is $4000. The car also comes with an additional set of winter tires, "maintenance paperwork, upgrade info, and car manual".

1986 Xr4Ti, 127K mi, located in Maine

New from the email Inbox: My father in law was the proud owner (original) of a 1986 XR4TI Merkur which he purchased as his "summer car" for his lake home in Maine. He passed away a few years back and the time has come to sell off some assets including the Merkur. The attached picture is my brother i...

Re: Virginia emissions and other off the wall questions

Also, while registering your vehicle as an antique does put some restrictions on the allowed usage, it's not quite as bad as stated. Again quoting from the VA DMV site, here are the limitations if you are registered solely as an antique vehicle: Registering your vehicle either of these ways limits y...

Re: Virginia emissions and other off the wall questions

He would not be exempt from emissions even being 25 years or older. The only exemption is antique vehicle. I am a Virginia State inspector and catalytic converter is a requirement. Now, emissions is not done in every part of the state (northern area only), so if you register the vehicle in an area ...

Re: Virginia emissions and other off the wall questions

I believe you're exempt from emissions inspections since the vehicle is more than 25 model years old. https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/vehicles/emissions.html You'll still need to pass safety inspection unless you choose to register it as an antique. Your vehicle could fail this without a visible cataly...

Re: A Merkur XR4Ti or Mustang SVO, which is better Project?

Just as a minor correction, SVO's did NOT come stock with the 8.8 rear, they have the 7.5. Many have been swapped and it's fairly simple to do, but it's not a stock SVO part.

I edited your first post for you. I just went to the URL you had in the post, selected the Embed codes option in the bottom left of the page, then copied the BBCode link for the photo and pasted it in.

Looking for a car from their past

I was contacted by a couple that owned a 1988 XR4Ti and sold it. Many years later, they've gotten the urge to try to locate it again. Here's the story and what is known about the car. My wife and I are former Merkur club members. We owned a white 1988 XR4Ti. Unfortunately we were unable to keep the ...
