Re: Manual trans into auto xr

Up front? If that's what you mean yeah. It bolts up where 2 of the sway bar bolts go. My dads 86 has one, and the 85 I parted out years ago had one too. I dunno if they all were supposed to have them and some folks/shops just never put them back not knowing what they were for. Now you got me wonderi...

Re: Manual trans into auto xr

Jim, You'll have to search google or see if Ghost chimes in. I got the trans mostly ready to install from him. The only things I had to source were the driveshaft, euro shift surround, and the clevis that I made, cuz one was missing. I still have to come up with a shifter handle, but I'll make that ...

Re: Manual trans into auto xr

Pics of the clevis I made for the shift cable. I had one of 2 required, so I had to make the 2nd. one. I coulda done it at work, with the CNCs, and all that, but I decided to go "old school" and use what i had on hand. Including piece of mild steel that I had laying around as a drop from a previous ...

Re: The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft agley

I haven't put it in yet, but I ripped off a tfi relocation heatsink from and F-series way back in the late 90s early 2000s with the intent of installing it in my XR. It hasn't happened yet. I'll take a pic and post next time I come across it.

It was, and I can't remember who used to post them all the time. I may even still have some of them in one of my e-mail backups. It might even be in the IMON archives, wherever that is these days...

Re: Manual trans into auto xr

I figured I'd have to drive her without tags a for a minute or nine anyhow, simply because I need to diagnose the rich running/high HC that I was having at the last failing smog in 2017. I'd just prefer to be legal about it, as murphys law will kick in if I try to take advantage of the situation I'm...

Re: Event Status as it relates to COVID-19

On the bright side, I don't want to hear anyone complaining they can't make it because gas prices are too high! :) Gas prices are back to a $1.79 here in CO, too high for me  How about this heat! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj8vey1-8f...

Re: Manual trans into auto xr

I need to be better about posting pics. I thought Ida been on lockdown these last few weeks, but because most of our clients are DOD contractors of some sort or another we got to be essential. I took today off of work to make a 4 day weekend so I can work on the car some, and then figure out the pro...

Re: Manual trans into auto xr

I think I'm a week or 2 out from driving the car. I am in an "essential" position and am permitted to go to and from work despite current restrictions limiting number of people in building at one time. We are also able to maintain 6ft apart so as long as no one brings it to work were good. Of course...

DMV is closed here also, and they said just drive around and don't worry about plates. I don't think cops are even going to pull you over.

Yeah, we'll see. My last real tag expired in 2012, and the last temp tag expired in 2018 IIRC. But hey, I have the most important thing, insurance

Re: Manual trans into auto xr

Did a little bit of final fitting of the t-5 today. I think I have a reasonable angle on the front section of the drive shaft, and had to "massage" the tunnel sheet metal with a vise grips, and screw driver to get the inner boot to clear, and not have the trans rubbing on the tunnel once it was shim...

Re: A4LD... What's out of adjustment?

If I were in the situation where I felt that the bands/major mechanicals were still OK, then I would risk rebuilding the valve body myself using the Transgo Shift kit and using the the explorer forum link as a guide (along with the kit's instructions). I would also research all other upgrade parts ...

Re: Diff Flange Bolt Spec?

M10 - 1.00 x 20mm is a good answer here. The surface on the yoke is recessed, which makes fitting a socket over the bolt head a little iffy so I'd really would prefer to have a flange bolt, but I cannot find any. So, it's either a hex head straight against the diff yoke and a janky socket fitment, ...

Re: How to Open an XR4Ti Hood if the Cable Snaps

Fans coming on without key in the ignition was a daily occurrence with my XR in the summers at nearly 5000ft of altitude. And that was without driving it hard.

Re: Contemplating manual steering conversion...

I've been running a "redneck manual steering" on the Brat for a couple years now. It's just a stock TRW rack with the hydraulic lines open to filtered atmosphere. I do plan to go back to power steering, hopefully with a Saginaw pump as donated from a Focus. I've gathered the parts, just need to imp...
