Ryan - I would say it was '99 or 2000 when I last saw you. Come on, can't you find an XR to bring!

After all - you invented that Star Wars inspired phrase we all love if my memory serves me correctly.

The stock ones are black rubber. The Group N ones are also black rubber but stiffer. The Poly ones are yellow.

Sorry guys I have you beat. This will be my tenth year. The All Ford Nationals were first held in '95 and Merkurs have been attending as a group since '96. There were 29 cars that first year. The attendees just for the record: Scorpio: Dave & Denise Britton (Fairfax, VA) Paul & Laurie Ceppi ...

Excellent Dennis. Are you making up the shirt and fleece I said I'd order before Carlisle? Is there still some time to place some orders? If people are wearing the Merkwear and see what is possible, there are more likely to be follow-on orders.

Thanks for handling this.

Thanks guys. $4 worth of parts from Home Depot and all four STA bushings are out and the new ones in. I used a piece of Schedule 40 2.5" pipe for the outers and a piece of 1.5" Galvanized pipe for the inners. Some threaded rod and a small washer. http://www.pbase.com/paulthbrit/image/43044...

Thanks Chuck & Norm. I did think of using a flame-thrower.

Chuck - did you use the PVC pipe and metal plate method to pull the new bushings into place as well? I understand that it is important that they go in parallel otherwise they will bind and not seat correctly.

Thanks for the tips. I tried the 'cut off the rubber lip, drill a hole in a 4' piece of angle iron, put a nut and bolt through the bushing and angle iron and lever it out' method last night. Without success! I will take one of the new poly bushings to Home Depot at the weekend and see if I can find ...

Thanks for the help. I was indeed trying to use the inner bushings on the outer position. I do have the other bag of outer bushings which have a thinner 'lip'. That will make things a lot easier! Now all I need to do is to get the old ones out! Following the Merkur encyclopedia I cut the lip off the...

Thanks for the tips. I received two bags of bushings and thought they were identical. I will check the other bag tonight to see if they are the outer ones with a thinner 'lip'. My guess is that you are spot on and I am trying to fit an inner STA bushing in the outer STA position. I have heard that y...

Rear suspension bushing replacement

I’m working on fitting poly bushings to the rear A-Arms, and new main sub-frame and Differential mounts. I have the sub-frame out of the car so it’s easy to work on. Any tips on removing the old rubber bushings from the A-Arms and the main rubber subframe mount from the subframe? Just ...

What a great story John. I can see my self right there. I have had many freeway dashes with lesser cars (and drivers) in my 16 years of Merkur ownership in NJ. It's those on-ramp/off-ramp moments that you remember. Like you, rules are different on the freeway. Once I have made the off-ramp turn thou...

Carlisle Racing Videos

On Saturday evening a group in the parking lot were watching street racing amateur videos on a laptop. What was the website that the videos came from? I was told but have forgotten.

Thanks,

Paul
