VAM

xr steve,

First off, code 54 is for a VAT Vane Air Temperature Sensor.
Your XR has a VAM Vane Air Meter/Air Charge Temperature Sensor.
You have either got a non-XR ECU or your getting a bad code from your code reader! If you have a different ECU then just disregard the code 54.

fuel gauge-fuel pump fuse

onebadazzsrt, The main ground runs from the negative battery terminal of the battery to the battery box. In your case I'd run it from the negative battery terminal to the chassis. The wire is about a 6-8 gauge. If you can find some of the heavy gauge wire they use for stereos, that will probably wor...

onebadazzsrt,

Check the main ground that goes from the battery negative to the bottom of the battery box. Make sure all the connections are clean.

onebadazzsrt, Fuel Gauge Check Fuel gauge check: Go to the back of your XR, open the hatch. There is a panel there that sits behind the tail lights, remove that panel. You will see a bundle of wire coming from the fuel tank. UN-TAPE a couple inches of the bundle to expose the wiring. There will be a...

88merkurXR4Ti,

If memory serves me correctly I believe there is a wide transmission tunnel and a narrow transmission tunnel. This I believe will effect the year of the pedal cluster that you install.

Tumbler,

What all those code mean is that you have an electrical short or open in the wiring between your VAM and ECU. Check your VAM plug, and all your grounds.

I would like to see answers to previously asked questions also.

EVIL_XR4. The sensor for the temperature gauge is located in the lower intake. It has a red and white single wire. You will need to pull all the sensors out of the lower intake and clean it out. Fuel gauge test: Go to the back of your XR, open the hatch. There is a panel there that sits behind the t...

I have no clue why the idle wants to keep on rising to 12-1300. Should I turn the car off and disconnect the battery before I plug the IAC back in? I've seen people mention that method. This is the one little problem that I have left until she will be fine for modification! Jason Another thing that...

turboplz. Try setting your TPS at .94 that should give you more top end. If your have another TFI slip that on after you reset the TPS and take it for a ride, if that doesn't help. Check the main ground that goes from battery negative to the bottom of the battery box. Sounds like the rain has caused...
