Bubbles / surging in coolant after turning off engine

Folks, Ever since I've gotten my xr, it has had these symptoms: 1. Low coolant temps (verified with infrared thermometer, around 200 at top hose, 190 at bottom) 2. Low heat from heater, feels just.... Warmish... 3. Bubbles or coolant, don't know which, surging back after shutoff. Doesn't sound reall...

Car still stalling when going to neutral at high speed

Folks, I took the car out for a spin today, and I thought that I had solved the stalling issue by installing a new motorcraft tps, but no... It stalled again twice today, both times when going to neutral to make a turn. So far I have checked codes with reader, none exist, tps set to .99, iac seems t...

Re: Just purchased a car that has been sitting--what to chec

http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=7600 Was a great resource for me, But I'd check for play in the turbo shaft/bearings since its right there and so easy, also check and make sure both fuel pumps are working especially since the car had adequate time for gas to gum up the sending...

Re: Engine stall between 4th and 5th gear change

Thanks, in fact I USED to have an authentic forge BOV, but removed it and went back to the stock bypass valve included with rapido intercooler kit. This was months ago. The car doesn't stammer or hesitate between the shifts, it just... shuts off... Smoothly and quietly. Popping clutch in 5th brings ...

Re: Bypassing a/c de-ice switch : dangers?

Right on! Thanks for the info, I think I can make do with the current setup, seeing as how I rarely drive it. I'll come around to fixing it soon enough lol

Engine stall between 4th and 5th gear change

Hello there guys, It's me again! Sorry! Lol I've scoured the forums, and done intensive troubleshooting and tuning, including setting gap to .028 on autolite 764s, setting base idle and setting tps to .99 volt, making sure there are no vacuum leaks, checking and cleaning iac, installing new ignition...

Re: Bypassing a/c de-ice switch : dangers?

Thanks Ed, I took her for a spin last night with AC on full blast for 20 min with no noticeable reduction in AC power and chill so I think I'll sit on it for a while. Right now, just knowing that the AC is healthy, works, cools and doesn't make funny noises is enough for me. Just curious, have you e...

Re: Bypassing a/c de-ice switch : dangers?

Actually, better yet: what if I bought an xr4ti-specific de-ice module and mounted it elsewhere than evaporator assembly? Would the expansion valve location still be preferable?

Re: Bypassing a/c de-ice switch : dangers?

Ed, thanks as always for the reply... Here's the thing: I drive this car MAYBE twice a month, and usually at night or maybe in daytime for less than 30 minutes at a time. Would that be sufficient time for it to freeze? car was retrofitted to 134a if that matters for temperature's sake. I'll check in...

Bypassing a/c de-ice switch : dangers?

Hello all! I found the problem with my AC not kicking in: it's the de-ice switch in the first firewall going to evaporator. I bypassed the switch, and AC works awesome now, and I even checked to make sure that the trinary switch is functioning and that I didn't just end up supplying 12v to my compre...

Re: Looking for 'water pipe (lower) to oil cooler'' hose

That's a tha one! I was able to temporarily graft another hose onto it to get me going for the time being, the section nearest the exhaust was what had cracked, probably due to the high heat. The reminder looks alright, but seeing as how I have only just resurrected this car after a 15 year barn slu...

Re: Looking for 'water pipe (lower) to oil cooler'' hose

I almost always make it a point to buy from people who support this site, but in this particular case, I goofed, I need the hose by tomorrow, and got hurt and learned my lesson by trying to use rock auto for obscure cooling parts. Now, I need to move the car by tomorrow and was for this reason hopin...

Re: Steering too sharp, almost scary. Help?

Thank you... I think of myself as a jack of all trades, but king of none, except for electrical / electronic troubleshooting. I can maintain and repair a vehicle well enough, but never got too deep into the intricacies of each system and sub-system. Slowly trying to exand my knowledge and abilites, ...
