Re: Engine Rebuild Recommendations in SoCal

I actually asked what autozone would charge for a short block once just for fun, they quoted me 2400. Who knows whether it would be any good or not, just thought it was interesting and semi relevant.

Re: Xr stereo and speakers

I've seen pics of a merkur with larger speakers in the door panel, using the little storage space in the doors on the bottom, and custom built mounts. You can mount slightly bigger speakers (I got 5 1/4) to fit in the rear deck location, just drilling out new mounting holes to get them to fit. he sp...

Re: new focus RS

When it comes to driving in snow, proper snow tires trump everything else... drivelines included. agreed, though i've never driven a car with snow tires. but going from near bald toyo eclipse tires, to new all seasons, even that was a world of difference. I just hate the feeling of driving a fwd ca...

Re: new focus RS

This Fiesta has an automated manual, but unfortunately the programming will not allow me to put it in anything but 1st when standing still. Sure I can manually shift it when I wanna have fun, but I can't shift it into 3rd in the winter... That sounds like hell! Yet another reason why I would always...

Re: new focus RS

I'd rather drive my xr in the snow than my dad's fwd taurus. It has more grip, but once it looses it there's absolutely nothing that you can do to fix it other than hitting the brakes and praying. At least in the xr, even knowing I will have to drift every single turn almost, is controllable. Hills ...

Sweet! I can't wait to start seeing these on the road. Ford has been making some really cool stuff lately.

This could be a very sweet little hatch. I remember watching the top gear episode with an older generation focus rs, the new one will have awd, and come here to the US! https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/2016-ford-focus-rs-arrives-with-over-320-hp--awd--a-stick-and-a-ticket-to-america-134820905...

Re: Xr4ti... Sitting since 05..headgasket?

I think merkur dipstick is different/unique,also just a FYI, a very, VERY important thing about the XR4Ti dipsticks is that ALL of them have the mark for the "TOP FILL LEVEL" wrong from factory, so they give a false or wrong oil level, what we do is drain the oil and when fill it up with new oil yo...

Re: Rebuilding an XR4TI

Merkur Midwest and Rapido have that gasket if you don't want to have to worry about part numbers. I got mine from merkur midwest for $50.

Re: Rebuilding an XR4TI

Thank you SO MUCH! For the tip (I think I would cry if my turbo blew) I will for sure use something else.... I suspect High Temp Loctite will work? I'd be careful with loctite, it's supposed to be pretty permanent, and isn't really made for oil lines (i think). You can get TFE paste at pretty much ...

Re: Rebuilding an XR4TI

Do NOT use teflon tape on the oil feed fitting. Many bad stories of it clogging up the oil passages in the turbo and frying it. I used tfe paste on a replacement oil feed fitting, since I couldn't get them to stop leaking any other way, teflon tape is broken up because of the tapered threads and do...

Re: Eliminating brake booster, AKA non-power brake conversio

You don't get better braking from disco-ing the XR rears , NOOB. But saying and repeating it does make you believe it, just as Goebbels said. If you disagree, please find comparative objectively verifiable statistics to share here. YMMV 8) Alright, I'll edit my post to say I just like the simplicit...

Re: Eliminating brake booster, AKA non-power brake conversio

I just have a hatred for drums after a spring pulled loose when I was trying to replace the wheel cylinder, and cut my finger open. The old brake fluid that dripped into the cut was no bueno as well. I just like the simplicity of discs.
